Acting U.S. attorney names Ong criminal division chief

INDIANAPOLIS -- Josh J. Minkler, Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, announced Monday the appointment of a new supervisor to lead the Criminal Division.

Winfield D. Ong, 56, will become the acting criminal chief supervising attorneys who work fraud, public corruption, child exploitation, human trafficking, environmental and other criminal cases.

Ong is a 25-year veteran of the U. S. Attorney's Office specializing in white collar cases. He most recently was the lead federal prosecutor in the Tim Durham case, resulting in a sentence of over 50 years.

Ong graduated law school from Lewis and Clark College, Portland, Ore., in 1985, and DePauw University in 1980. He and his wife Jennifer have three adult children. He begins his assignment immediately.
