County Jail

Three people were recently booked into the Putnam County Jail.

*At 10:55 a.m. on Wednesday, Nicholas Robert Lieske, 31, Waveland, was charged with a probation violation and theft.

*At 11:21 a.m. Wednesday, Anthony Michael Paul, 23, Greencastle, was arrested on a probation violation.

*At 2:58 a.m. on Thursday, Mark Allan Miller, 54, Greencastle, was arrested for criminal trespassing at the mini-mart property on North Jackson Street in Greencastle.

City Police

Two recent citations were written by Greencastle City Police officers.

*At 9:35 p.m. Wednesday, Andrew King, 26, Greencastle, was stopped by Officer Matt Huffman at Indianapolis Road and Longcastle Drive.

King was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

*At 7:46 a.m Saturday, Aug. 16, Emmalie Beaman, 18, Greencastle, was ticketed for speeding by Reserve Officer Jes Seipel.

Stopped on Albin Pond Road, Beaman was cited for 57 mph in a 30-mph zone.

Sheriff's Dept.

Three recent accidents were investigated by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies.

*At 11:05 a.m. on Sunday, Mark Walz, 45, Fillmore, was westbound on State Road 240, approaching County Road 525 East.

Walz advised Lt. Donnie Pettit that a vehicle attempted to pass him on the left in a no-passing zone. When Walz sped up to keep the other vehicle from passing, he lost control of his 1995 Honda Civic due to the wet pavement.

Walz veered off the north side of the roadway, striking a highway sign before coming to rest facing east in a bean field.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

*At 12:21 p.m. on Monday, Gary L. Croan, 49, Fillmore, was traveling on County Road 750 East near Range Line Road.

Croan told Deputy Adam Hull he believed he could drive between a vehicle driven by Stacey R. Chadd, 47, Greencastle, and a truck parked on the left side of the road.

As Croan drew closer, he stated he didn't believe he could fit through, so he stopped and was attempting to back up when Chadd's 2000 Blaw Knox Street Paver hit the left front of Croan's 2008 Dodge Ram.

Chadd stated that Croan was positioned on the right side of the road paver and looking down at the edge of the road and couldn't see the other vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

*At 12:05 p.m. on Tuesday, Chief Deputy Tom Helmer responded to a report of a parked vehicle being hit at The Waters of Greencastle, 1601 Hospital Drive.

The owner of the vehicle, a resident of The Waters, advised Helmer that upon checking her 2013 Chevrolet Impala, she observed that the left-rear of the vehicle had been struck by an unknown type of vehicle.

Damage was to the bumper and quarterpanel area. The owner had no idea who or what type of vehicle had hit her car.

Damage was estimated at less than $1,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has performed two lift assists, one medical assist and has responded to several dispatches recently.

* At 4:06 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, GFD was called to a fire alarm at 1421 Bloomington St. Upon arrival the alarm had been reset and no fire was present.

* At 5:42 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 330 Greenwood Ave.

* At 11:19 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, GFD was dispatched to 306 N. Gillespie St. for a vehicle fire. Upon arrival GFD found the vehicle owner had extinguished the fire with water but GFD used a fire extinguisher to be sure that no threat remained.

* At 5:06 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, and 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, GFD responded to two separate fire alarms at 501 W. Walnut St.

* At 6:47 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 1542 Bloomington St. but upon arrival found that building maintenance had reset the alarm and no fire was present.
