(Un)Covered Bridge

Friday, August 22, 2014

Standing against the morning fog over Big Walnut Creek is the bare skeleton of Baker's Camp Covered Bridge in northwestern Floyd Township. The bridge is in the early stages of a federal aid rehabilitation project that will address a number of issues to the 113-year-old structure. Roofing and siding have been removed, with much more work to come. Putnam County applied for funding for the bridge back in 2010, with $980,000 in grants coming through in the summer of 2011. The $1.225 million project has progressed through engineering and letting phases since, with the physical work beginning last week. The accompanying closure of County Road 650 North is expected to last until Dec. 19.

  • a million dollars to fix and old bridge, but no place for the homeless or assistance for the disabled or elderly.
