Lady Tiger Cubs take down Wildcats decisively

With a slight wind and plenty of sunshine the GHS Girls Soccer team played its rescheduled game against South Vermillion on Wednesday beating the Wildcats 6-2.

The team played the first half with numerous opportunities to score. Tiger Cub midfielders Hannah Brattain and Katie Rose Parsons maintained a stronghold over the midfield while a bounty of crosses came from Katie Kessler and Bailey Lausee. A final connection from Brattain to Whitney Weinschenk gave the Tiger Cubs a score on the board with two minutes to go until half-time.

After half-time the offense was ready to go with an early goal by Brattain. The assist was made by Madeline Graham. The team's momentum continued with a third goal from Gracie Smith, with an assist from Brattain. South Vermillion gained a penalty kick which brought the score to 3-1. The Tiger Cubs rallied once again to score two more goals, proving they were not backing down. Parsons shot a successful goal, with an assist from Brattain. Graham pressed on to get a goal, with an assist from Weinschenk. With a shot sliding in South Vermillion brought the score to 5-2. The final goal was driven in by Grace Gillen which brought the score to 6-2.

Defenders Sydney Secrest and Mallary Meyer led the team with strong passes and over-all leadership and determination. The next home game is slated for Sept. 9 against Terre Haute South at 5:30 p.m.
