Walter Lee 'Birddog' Poynter

Walter Lee ("Birddog") Poynter, 80, of Greencastle, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 12, 2014.

Born April 11, 1934, he was the son of the late Walter Henderson, birth mother Mary Elizabeth (Blanton) Poynter. After the death of Mary, Walter remarried Walt's second mother, Anne (West) Poynter.

Walt served his country in the United States Navy.

Walt was an avid antiques collector, member of the Greencastle Masonic Lodge, the Fillmore Eastern Star and spent as much free time as possible spoiling every animal in sight.

He is survived by his wife and partner of 30 years, Marlene; his children, Kerry Poynter, Kathy Lee, Lea Ann Scoby and Gail Poynter; his loving sister, Wilma Proctor; and his grandchildren, Kenny Pingleton, Mark Poynter, Lauren Ankenbauer, Whitnie Davis and Zachary Scoby; great grandchildren and many wonderful neighbors and friends that he was fortunate enough to call "family" too.

Along with his parents, Walt was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Stanger, Helen Fine, Fern Proctor and Betty Zeiner.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends preceding the service from noon till time of service. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to Putnam County Humane Society, 1021 Indianapolis Rd., Suite C, Greencastle, IN 46135 (or the Humane Society of your choice).
