County Jail

Three people were booked into the Putnam County Jail on Thursday.

*At 1 p.m., Jason Skinner, 35, Avon, was charged with a probation violation.

At 1:30 p.m., David Henry Panning, 42, Columbus, was arrested for theft.

At 9:45 p.m. Adam McElwee, 31, Bainbridge, was charged with a probation violation.

Sheriff's Dept.

* At 8:05 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, Melinda S. Downing, 37, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 near Tall Oaks Lane.

Downing advised Chief Deputy Tom Helmer that a large deer ran from a field on the west side of the roadway and into her path of travel. Downing noted that she had no time to react and struck the deer with her 2001 Pontiac Sunfire.

Impact with the deer caused the driver and passenger airbags to deploy, injuring the front seat passenger, Wyatt Ellis, 15, Greencastle.

Ellis was examined by Operation Life, but a medical signiture of release was obtained.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

Assisting at the scene was the Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department.

* At 4:37 a.m. on Thursday, Angela Benge, 27, Russellville, was westbound on U.S. 36 just north of U.S. 231.

Benge advised Lt. Virgil Lanning that a deer entered the roadway and she was unable to avoid a collision.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.
