County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 10 p.m. on Friday, Toby Lee Soltermann, 40, Rockville, was arrested for resisting law enforcement and criminal recklessness.

* At 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, Eve Jackson, 39, Greencastle, was charged with theft.

* At 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Rigoberto Garcia-Rodriguez, 25, Indianapolis, was charged with operating while intoxicated and operating while never having received a license.

At 10 p.m., Marcia Woods, 48, no town listed, was arrested for operating while intoxicated, resisting law enforcement, battery on law enforcement, intimidation, disorderly conduct and possession of a controlled substance.

At 11:55 p.m., Justin Ray Sims, 26, Greencastle, was charged with battery.

City Police

A 19-year-old Greencastle man is facing theft and other charges following his arrest early Monday at the Greencastle Walmart store, City Police reported.

Joshua Mitchell was arrested at 1:15 a.m. by Officer Matt Huffman after allegedly trying to steal two jars of Moonshine alcohol by putting the items down his pants.

Mitchell and a juvenile male were detained by store personnel.

Mitchell, who was lodged in the Putnam County Jail, is charged with theft, illegal possession of alcohol by a minor and probation violation.

Also arrested recently by city officers and lodged in the Putnam County Jail was Frank Louis Waner Jr., 56, Greencastle.

Arrested by Sgt. Charles Inman at 1:39 a.m. Sunday at Main and Ohio streets in the city's South End, Waner is charged with public intoxication.

Under blood-alcohol testing at Putnam County Hospital, Waner registered a .29 percent BAC, more than three times the legal limit of .08 percent.

One minor accident was investigated recently by city officers.

The mishap occurred at 3:37 p.m. Sept. 9 as Justin Herd, 28, Bainbridge, was northbound on U.S. 231, riding a 1996 Kawasaki motorcycle, when he was struck by a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Kandi Collins, 33, Cloverdale, Officer Albert Epple reported.

Offier Epple noted that Collins was eastbound on Columbia Street and stopped at the stopsign before entering the highway. However, she apparently did not see the motorcycle until it was too late and a collision occurred.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Sheriff's Dept.

* At 12:10 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31, Curtis Marmaduke, 28, Brownsburg, was southbound on County Road 825 East, rounding a curve that turns west onto County Road 525 North.

Marmaduke advised Lt. Donnie Pettit that he lost control of his 2010 Chevrolet Silverado due to the wet pavement, which resulted in him traveling left of center and striking Jeremy Mchone, 40, Pittsboro who was rounding the curve in the opposite direction.

Mchone advised Pettit that he was eastbound on County Road 525 North, rounding a curve that turns north onto County Road 825 East when he was struck by Marmaduke who was left of center.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to 11 medical runs and numerous dispatches recently.

* At 9:35 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking in Humbert Hall, 208 E. Olive St.

* At 10:28 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, GFD was called to 318 N. Arlington St. for a downed power line. GFD secured the area and notified the power company of the issue.

* At 11:20 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, GFD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident to perform basic cleanup at the intersection of State Road 240 and Calbert Way.

* At 4:24 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, GFD was called to a 6 N. Arlington St. for a power line that had fallen across Franklin Street. The area was secured and the power company was notified.

* At 12:32 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, GFD investigated an accidental fire alarm trigger at 509 S. Locust St.

* At 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, GFD was called to Albin Pond Road to remove a tree and cleanup debris caused from a tree that had fallen across the roadway.

* At 10:24 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, GFD went to 410 S. Indiana St. to investigate a fire alarm, but upon arrival the DePauw University Police had already reset the alarm. No fire was discovered.

* At 4:03 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, GFD was dispatched to extinguish an unauthorized burn at 724 E. Seminary St.

* At 9:20 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, GFD responded to 304 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm that had been triggered due to cooking.

* At 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, GFD was called to 110 E. Larabee St. for a fire alarm due to a fire extinguisher being triggered, no fire was present.

* At 9:58 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, GFD was called to a fire alarm at 304 S. Indiana St., it was triggered because the detector was dirty.

* At 8:47 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, GFD was dispatched to 110 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm that had been triggered when a furnace turned on, no fire was present.

* At 9:41 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, GFD was called to 309 E. Franklin St. for a fire alarm that had been set off due to steam from a shower.

* At 11:58 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 413 S. Locust St. that was due to cooking.

* At 1:37 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St., no fire was found and the alarm was reset.

* At 2:22 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, GFD was sent to an unauthorized burn at 11 Sunset Dr. but the fire was small and no extinguishing was required.
