Fillmore chicken barbecue slated Friday, Saturday

FILLMORE -- The 55th Annual Fillmore Fireman's Chicken Barbecue is set for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19 and 20 at the fire station.

Serving starts at 5 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday. It will conclude each evening at 9 p.m. or until chicken runs out.

With the Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department having outgrown its current station and construction plans already under way for a new facility. This will be the last year the chicken barbecue will be held in the big tent on the lawn behind the firehouse rather than in the firehouse itself.

This year's menu will once again include white and dark meat chicken quarters, tenderloin sandwiches, hamburgers/cheeseburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, noodles, fish and dessert options.

The annual event will also feature live entertainment from Cowboy Casanova from 6-9 p.m. on both nights.

Several door prizes will also be given away each evening with the top three prizes with first prize being $500 in meat or $400 in cash, second prize being a 32-inch flat screen TV and third prize being a $100 gas card.

Raffle tickets will be available all weekend and can be purchased from any Fillmore Fireman for $5.

Fillmore Town Marshal and Greencastle Police Officer Darrell Bunten also noted that the chicken barbecue's sign, located in the Crown Industries lawn, was stolen on Friday, Sept. 12 around 6 p.m.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Greencastle Police Department.

  • What a sad and senseless act that someone has committed in stealing the sign. What good is it to you?

Please return the sign from where you stole it.
