Riding for a cause

Friday, September 19, 2014

Bicyclists participating in a challenging 500-mile bicycle ride -- the inaugural Ride Indiana -- made their way through Putnam County Friday afternoon. The ride aims to not only raise funds for Hoosier military, but to increase awareness for Hoosier military families facing financial hardships. Cyclists departed from Lafayette at 6 a.m. before reaching Greencastle just shortly after noon. Upon arrival, they took a brief lunch break in the parking lot behind Old National Bank, which had committed $5,000 to sponsor the event, prior to departing for Bloomington. The ride will conclude Sunday on Monument Circle in Indianapolis. Other sponsors of the event include Wish for Our Heroes, a Noblesville-based national charity along with Kroger Co.

Cyclists Scott Bond and Mike Lang round the corner onto Washington Street off of Jackson Street during the inaugural Ride Indiana event on Friday.
