Tuesday, September 30, 2014

Mahala Jane Truelove McCarter, 79, surrounded by her family, entered heaven's gates on Sept. 30, 2014.

She was born on Dec. 21, 1934 to Ora Truelove and Pauline Keller Truelove in Linton. She is preceded in death by her father and infant daughter.

Jane married James McCarter on March 9, 1956. They moved to Greencastle on July 4, 1960, with two small children and built a wonderful life together.

She was known as "Mrs. McCarter" to hundreds of school children who walked the halls of Miller, Greencastle Junior High School, Ridpath and Tzouanakis, where she served as secretary, retiring after 28 years.

She attended New Life Baptist Church where she enjoyed working in the food pantry.

Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, her mother and brother Paul Truelove. She will be greatly missed by her children, Jody and Mark Cowger and Jeff and Darlena McCarter. She was "Granny" to Jamie McGuire, Jeremy Cowger and Eric Wheeler. The greatest blessings were the arrivals of her great-grandchildren Jordan Mahala O'Neal, Cruz Alan Cowger and Kayden Parker Wheeler. Other special people in her life were Will, Amy and Eli Truelove and Lindsay and Landon Wagner.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. with services following immediately after the visitation at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Donations can be made in Jane's memory to the New Life Baptist Food Pantry.
