GMS cross country girls are state runners-ups

CARMEL--The girls' cross country team of Greencastle Middle School scored second in the state at the Indiana Middle School cross country Championships on Saturday at Carmel.

Emma Wilson won the race in the small schools girls 3K event.

Her time of 10:47.3 led all runners, and was a repeat state victory for the GMS eighth-grader.

The GMS girls team also scored runners in eighth, ninth, 10th and 67th places for a team score of 89. The top five runners for GMS were Wilson, Seeley Stoffregen, Sydney Lewis, Kennedy Trigg and Mika Mozawa. Other team runners were Savannah Edwards and Zoe Weltz.

The state title in small schools went to Norwood Middle School, which scored 58 team points.

In the small school boys' 3K race, the GMS boys ranked 28th in the state. Top runner was sixth-grader Ian Frank as the team scored 702 points. Other team finishers were Sho Yamaga, Donovan Asbell, Cade Plew, Bentley Downing, Aidan O'Brien and Dayan Martinez.

GMS also entered five runners in the junior varsity girls' 3K race. The team of Keeghan McLain, Jennifer Scott, Paige Kaiser, Mary Kate Asbell and Allison Scott finished 18th with a score of 569.

Elementary race

Tzouanakis Intermediate School had several students competing in the 2K open grades 3,4,5 race.

Girl runners were led by Lilyan Barker who finished 21st in a time of 9:34.0. Other TZ girl runners were Miru Yamaga in 25th, Brooke Boswell in 26th, Olivia Headley in 28th, Elle Patterson in 31st, Haley Timcheck in 32nd, Michayla Dinn in 38th, Kallie Pastore, Raigan Chavez, Keeli Pastore, Carissa Trigg, Ellie Shillings and Hope Anderson.

TZ boy runners were led by Josh Hammond in 10th place with a time of 8:11.2. Other boy runners were Michael Neiner in 15th, Jacob Carter in 20th, Evan Harris in 21st, Rudy Hagan in 22nd, Daniel Dinn in 24th, Keifer Wilson in 30th, Trentan Campbell, Harris Weltz, Joey Kleffman, Jayson Sparks, Isaac Hertenstein, Hunter Miller and Sam White.
