South Putnam's volleyball team hosted a pink-out filled Senior Night when Greencastle visited on Thursday. The Breast Cancer Awareness game saw little mercy from the Lady Tiger Cubs as they beat the Eagles in three sets.

Emily Dobson was honored as the lone senior leader.

However the Lady Tiger Cubs jumped out front to a 22-14 lead.

"They started out kind of slow," GHS coach Maggie Walters said. "They really picked it up and figured it out. We got to get some players in that don't usually get a lot of playing time and they did a great job."

They won the first match 25-16 and started the second game with a 10-2. Walters said she and her team have been working, as they have all year, on maintaining their good play.

"Sometimes we can play down to teams'" Walters said. "Just to stay consistent we need to be able to play our volleyball every game. When we play better teams we play better so that's a positive. We really shouldn't lose many more of our games."

The Lady Tiger Cubs pushed on to win the second game 25-8 led by some hard hitting by Quinci Miller, who said that her team just focused on itself.

"When we are out there we mainly focus on our side of the net," the senior said. "If we struggle against a team on the other side we don't worry about them. We keep doing what we are doing and keep lifting each other up."

The intensity did continue as Greencastle won the final game 25-8.

South Putnam coach Kristin Hendrich has told her team that with the season winding down this is the time to turn it up.

"I was just telling the girls this is the time to get it together," she said. "This is the best I've seen them all season. That's what I like to see. At this point we are just working on fine-tuning because the fundamentals are there."

Hendrich said she is working in practices to keep the team upbeat and focused with more scrimmages and team building activities.

Hendrich also said that her senior leader has been the best thing for the team.

"We are really going to miss Emily (Dobson)," Hendrich said. "She's one the best senior leaders I've ever seen. She cheers on the girls even when she is having a rough day. She has the ability to bring everyone 'smood up. That's something we'll never be able to replace."
