County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 2:09 a.m. Friday, Uranmeian Webb, 20, Walton, Ky., was charged with being a minor in consumption of alcohol.

At 2:50 p.m., Tonya Marie Benassi, 41 Greencastle, was arrested for failure to appear.

At 5:58 p.m., Fount Thomas Brock, 33, Bainbridge, was charged with theft and burglary.

* At 5:01 a.m. on Sunday, Braden Cole Patrick, 19, Greencastle, was arrested for operating while intoxicated and minor in consumption.

At 5:50 a.m., Christopher David Mink, 23, Stilesville, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

City Police

Five recent accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 12:01 p.m. Sunday, a two-vehicle accident was reported at State Road 240 and Zinc Mill Road.

Ashton Higgins, 16, Greencastle, was northbound on Zinc Mill Road, driving a 2008 Pontiac, stopping at the intersection.

Meanwhile, William A. Ford, 38, Danville, was westbound on State Road 240, driving a 2003 Toyota Tacoma when he stopped as well.

Both drivers then proceeded without seeing the other vehicle until it was too late to avoid a collision, Officer Albert Epple reported.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

* At 7 p.m. Friday, a hit-and-run accident was reported on the parking lot at Greencastle Middle School.

A parked 2008 Toyota Tacoma, owned by Debra Wallace, Greencastle, was struck in the left rear and quarterpanel while parked during the Greencastle High School football game.

A witness tailgating in the parking lot, saw a 2001 Toyota Highlander pull into the adjoining space and strike the Wallace vehicle. The witness took photos of the truck and its license plate with his cellphone, leading police to discover the owner was from Clayton.

However, when Hendricks County authorities went to the address, neither the car nor the owner was home.

Damage to the Wallace vehicle was listed by Officer Nick Eastham at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 3:59 p.m. Friday, a two-vehicle mishap occurred on Indianapolis Road, 800 feet west of Percy Julian Drive, as Carolyn Huerth, 21, Prairie Grove, Ill., was stopped in eastbound traffic in a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee when her vehicle was struck in the rear by a 1989 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Shyann McCombs, 18, Rockville.

McCombs told Officer Epple she braked but the truck slid on wet pavement into the Huerth vehicle.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

* At 3:58 p.m. Friday, State Road 240 and Calbert Way was the scene of a two-vehicle accident.

Maurice Unversaw, 77, Indianapolis, was reportedly attempting to switch lanes in his 2007 Chrysler Town and Country van to make a left turn, Sgt. Terry Eastham noted, when he pulled into the path of a 2009 Ford F-350 truck driven by Matthew Barber, 38, Greencastle.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

* At 2:41 p.m. Friday, wet pavement at State Road 240 and Calbert Way contributed to a two-car mishap in which the driver left the scene after his or her car was struck from behind.

Shelly Perry, 53, Greencastle, told Officer Jeff Modlin her 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier slid on the wet roadway into the rear of a black passenger car which fled the scene.

Officers Modlin and Epple investigated, finding front-end damage to the Perry car, noting that both airbags deployed, preventing Perry from getting a good description of the other car or driver.

Damage to the Perry car was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

Sheriff's Dept.

Several recent accidents were investigated by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies.

* At 6:20 a.m. Oct. 1, Donald L. Beverly, 46, Indianapolis, was eastbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 675 East.

Beverly advised Lt. Donnie Pettit that he struck a deer with his 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,000.

* At 8:30 a.m. Oct. 2, Leslie E. Brunnemer, 51, Brownsburg, was southbound on County Road 825 East, just south of County Road 550 North.

Brunnemer told Pettit she braked just prior to entering a curve on County Road 525 North, when she lost control of her 2000 Toyota Celica due to wet pavement. Brunnemer went off the south side of the curve and struck several trees.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

At 12:30 p.m., Ivy N. Kelley, 27, Brazil, was westbound on County Road 125 South in the area of County Road 400 West.

Kelley said she lost control of her 2002 Dodge Caravan due to the wet road while rounding a curve, causing her to go off the south side of the roadway and strike a guy wire before traveling down an embankment.

Damage was estimated by Pettit at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 10:23 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, Roger W. Sciotto, 54, Rosedale, was traveling on County Road 75 South near County Road 725 West.

Upon Deputy Kyle Gibbons' arrival at the scene, he found Sciotto's 1999 Honda Accord unattended, on top of a tree and a telephone box.

Sciotto later advised that due to wet pavement and heavy fog he was unable to navigate when he came upon a corner in the road. He said he left the scene to secure a vehicle to pull his Honda Accord out of the tree. The car sustained extensive undercarriage damage as well as front-end damage.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 3:20 p.m. on Friday, James R. Blair, 41, Terre Haute, was eastbound on Interstate 70 near the 48-mile marker when he attempted to pass a semi-truck.

Blair advised Chief Deputy Tom Helmer his view was obstructed by rain and water being thrown by the truck tires, causing him to lose control of his 1998 Pontiac Sunfire GT and travel into the grass median.

Once Blair's tires hit the grass, he lost control and struck the center barrier. Following impact, Blair was able to steer his vehicle over to the right shoulder.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Allison M. Hayden, 24, Greencastle, was westbound on State Road 240, just west of County Road 425 East, when for an unknown reason she left the roadway.

Sgt. Gregg Slover said Hayden's 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer traveled approximately 250 feet into a ditch before striking a tree and coming to rest.

There was said to be no evidence at the scene suggesting the driver attempted to brake or regain control of the vehicle.

Hayden was unable to speak to officers at the scene as she was transported by LifeLine to Indianapolis for treatment.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Luke J. Stahley, 19, Dublin, Calif.., was eastbound on State Road 243 when he noticed a vehicle in front of him slowing in traffic.

Stahley advised Cpl. Josh Boller that the vehicle started to turn left into a driveway as he rear-ended Nicholaus A. Hollowell, 28, Brazil. Stahley said he was unable to get his 2003 Lexus ES300 stopped to avoid a collision.

Hollowell advised he was eastbound on State Road 243 and had to slow in traffic, adding that the vehicle in front of him started to turn left into a driveway when he was rear-ended by Stahley.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has performed two medical assists, a lift assist and responded to numerous dispatches recently.

* At 2:42 p.m. Friday, Oct 10, GFD provided debris clean-up at the scene of a motor vehicle accident at 2270 S. CR 150 West.

* At 3:57 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident at 940 Indianapolis Rd. to clean up debris from the street.

* At 12:07 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, GFD was called to the intersection of Zinc Mill Road and Veterans Memorial Highway to perform debris clean-up at the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

* At 3:51 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, GFD was dispatched to 821 Indianapolis Rd. to clean up a minor fuel spill.

* At 8:28 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, GFD was called to a fire alarm due to cooking at 106 S. Spring St.

*At 11:48 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 330 Greenwood Ave.
