County Jail

One person was booked into the Putnam County Jail on Wednesday.

*At 8:16 p.m., Gerald Wayne Rich, 52, Bainbridge, was charged with a probation violation.

City Police

Two recent traffic accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 2:48 p.m. Wednesday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Bloomington Street near East Walnut Street.

Officer Jeff Modlin reported that a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by Clayton Moore, 24, Greencastle, was northbound on Bloomington, either slowing or stopping for the stoplight at Washington Street, when his truck was struck in the rear by a 2005 Saturn Ion driven by Lucas Callahan, 17, Greencastle.

Callahan told police he was northbound and looked away at the street sign when his car reportedly ran into the rear of the pickup.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 12:31 p.m. Wednesday, a two-vehicle accident was reported on Indianapolis Road near Percy Julian Drive.

Jamie Keil, 37, Coatesville, was stopped for the traffic signal eastbound on Indianapolis Road in a 2013 GM Yukon when the vehicle was reportedly struck from behind by a 2005 Dodge Neon, driven by Bernard Wahl, 87, Greencastle.

Wahl told Officer Albert Epple that he looked down momentarily and his car ran into the rear of the Keil vehicle.

Officer Epple estimated total damage at $5,000-$10,000.

Three recent citations were issued by city officers.

-- At 2:10 a.m. Thursday, Walter Reiss, 39, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Matt Huffman for an infraction of driving with a suspended license at Martinsville and Bloomington streets.

-- At 5:15 a.m. Monday, Joseph Selke, 22, Greencastle, was cited for possession of paraphernalia when he was stopped on Bloomington Street by Sgt. Charles Inman.

-- 8:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, Nathan Ham, 35, Bainbridge, was cited for having a false or fictitious registration when he was stopped on North Jackson Street by Sgt. Inman.

Sheriff's Dept.

One recent traffic accident was investigated by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies.

* At 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Loren P. Caldwell, 45, Spencer, was parked in the north lot of the Cloverdale McDonald's with his 1997 Dodge Ram facing south.

Caldwell advised Chief Deputy Tom Helmer that he observed a Duke Energy 2015 Ford F150 attempt to turn into the parking lot.

Caldwell added that he was going to attempt to pull forward, but before he could move his truck his vehicle was struck in the right rear by the trailer being pulled by the Duke vehicle.

The Duke Energy driver, whose name was not listed in the report, advised he was turning into the parking lot and the left rear of his trailer struck the Caldwell truck.

Damage was estimated at less than $1,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has performed two lift assists and responded to one dispatch recently.

* At 8:05 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, GFD responded to an unauthorized burn at 71 Queenswood Ct. Upon arrival, no banned materials were being burned, GFD informed resident of burning notification procedures.
