Cloverdale High School FFA fruit sales have begun

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale FFA is selling a selection of citrus, apples, pineapples, pears and mixed boxes in addition to honey and candy as a fundraiser.

Anyone who would like to place an order may contact Chelsey Meluch at Cloverdale High School at 765-795-4203.

Fruit sales help fund the entire year of FFA activities for CHS members.

Meanwhile, the Cloverdale FFA has been busy this fall with several chapter and community activities.

The chapter had its kickoff for members and their families on Sept. 27 at Lieber State Recreation Area. In addition the chapter held the annual Cloverdale FFA alumni meeting at that time.

The Alumni Chapter is for any adult interested in supporting the FFA. Anyone interested in becoming a member may contact adviser Chelsey Meluch at CHS.

To help out the area's busy farmers, the chapter made and delivered meals to those who were busy harvesting crops on Oct. 24. FFA members met at the Cloverdale Agricenter and POET to hand out meals.

For fall contests, the Cloverdale FFA competed in the Livestock Skill-a-Thon contest, Soils Judging and is currently competing in Forestry Judging. At the State Livestock Skill-a-Thon contest Cloverdale FFA had a team that placed second overall, qualifying for a national competition in Denver in January. In addition, another high school team placed 32nd and the junior high teams placed ninth, 12th and 18th overall. At the State Soils Contest the high school team placed 27th and the junior high team placed 12th overall.

The Cloverdale FFA will be attending the National FFA Convention in Louisville from Oct. 29-31. Students will be able to support Cloverdale's past FFA president, Cameron Mann, as she is running for a national FFA office.

The Cloverdale FFA will be sponsoring a seed auction for farmers looking for seed for the next growing season. On Nov. 25 at 5 p.m. interested farmers can come to the Cloverdale High School cafetorium to bid on bags of seeds from several area dealers. Proceeds from the evening's event will go toward the National Livestock Skill-a-Thon contest trip. Other donations for the trip can be directed to Chelsey Meluch at Cloverdale High School.

The Cloverdale FFA is gearing up for a busy winter season that includes Dairy Foods Judging, The Christmas Toy Drive, the National Livestock Skill-a-Thon trip, and the beginning of the livestock judging season.
