Dec. 6 Reindeer Run 5K to benefit Giving Tree effort

On Saturday, Dec. 6, the DePauw University Chapter of Mortar Board and Putnam County's Giving Tree will be hosting the inaugural Reindeer Run/Walk 5K race at the DePauw Nature Park.

The Giving Tree is a local organization that serves approximately 300 families and cumulatively more than 700 children during the holiday months. The organization fundraises to provide children and families with both gifts and necessities during the holiday season.

Mortar Board, Giving Tree and local sponsors are rallying together to create a lasting tradition. The hope is that this annual 5K run will fundraise to meet the growing needs of those the Giving Tree aims to serve in the local community.

The event will be staged at the university's Welcome Center located near the side entrance of the Nature Park at 1400 W. CR 125 South. Persons may register now for free on Eventbrite.com. Registration is free as there will be various opportunities to donate at the event. Please bring what you can to donate at the race. Registration will open at 9 a.m. and the race will begin at 10 a.m. Last-minute registrations will be accepted the day of the race.

There will be music, some drinks and holiday snacks. Antlers and Santa caps will be available for purchase at the event. Holiday costumes are encouraged. Prizes will be awarded both for the race and the costume contest.
