Sunday, November 2, 2014

Organizers of Greencastle First Friday efforts, which have grown in participation and created momentum over spring, summer and early fall, will now take an indoor approach until an expected May return to outside activities on and around the square.

"It is going to be a little different for the cold months," noted Tami Van Rensselaer, Development Center executive assistant who has joined forces with Gail Smith of Almost Home/Swizzle Stick to coordinate local First Friday efforts.

"Many of the merchants will be having First Friday features," she added, "check out all the local merchants."

Almost Home and The Swizzle will continue hosting live music inside on the first Friday of each month with War Radio playing beginning at 9 p.m.

First Friday festivities for November will include not only events on the square, but also at the Putnam County Museum, where a special sale of works from several local artists is set for 5:30-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8.

A selection of unique works offered at the museum include pieces in wood, collage, photography, painting, textiles and jewelry.

Local artists participating in the sale will include Lisa Cooper, Jeffrey Davies, Barbara Fields Timm, Barbara Fuson, Stu Fabe, Marla Helton, Anna Kendall, Nancy Lovett, Barbara South and Lynne Tweedie.

Meanwhile, the newly formed Greencastle Arts Council will be on hand during the pop-up art show at the museum, 1105 N. Jackson St., Greencastle, with information about plans for fostering arts in the community.

Visitors will also be able to view exhibits in the museum, including antique quilts from the collection of Helen Houck and "Who Shot Putnam County?" an exhibit of photographs and cameras from the 1850s to the 1930s.

The Putnam County Museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 1-4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.

Also occurring Friday and Saturday is the annual Putnam County Extension Homemakers Past Presidents Club Arts and Craft Show will have more than 65 tables of crafts available at the Community Building on the local fairgrounds.

The Arts and Craft Show is set for Friday, Nov. 7 from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
