Broad Stripes and Bright Stars

As Greencastle American Legion Post 58 member Bob Tyler (center) explains the process of properly folding an American flag to Tzouanakis Intermediate School students Tuesday, Sons of the American Legion Commander Tony Sparks (left) and Legion member Mike Ford prepare to show the fifth-graders how it's done. Along with Post 58 Commander Rod Gaffney, the men also visited Central Elementary School on Election Day, teaching local fifth-graders about flag history, etiquette, symbolism and proper disposal. The presentation normally involves a demonstration of raising and lowering the flag, but weather moved the gathering indoors, so Gaffney instead explained the procedure to the students.
