County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 12:27 p.m. on Tuesday, Randy Arnold Bailey, 24, Indianapolis, was arrested for robbery and a probation violation.

At 9:29 p.m., Justin Wayne Lewis, 25, Rockville, was charged with domestic battery.

At 7:35 p.m., Susan Michelle Ewing, 57, Greencastle, was charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

* At 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, James Richard Lamb, 34, Coatesville, was arrested for contempt of court.

* At 12:21 a.m. on Thursday, Wilmary Cruz Whitaker, 37, Cloverdale, was charged with domestic battery.

City Police

Two car-deer accidents were investigated recently by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 1:51 p.m. Sunday, Kimberly Duell, 44, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 near County Road 75 North, when she struck a deer that ran out in front of her 2008 Chevrolet Impala.

Officer Albert Epple estimated damage to the car at $2,500-$5,000 as Duell struck the deer with the left front corner of the car and the animal careened down the left side of the vehicle doing further damage.

-- At 6:33 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, Shawnda Hendon, 33, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240, near Tennessee Street, when a deer entered the roadway and a collision occurred.

Officer Nick Eastham listed damage to Hendon's 2004 Honda Civic at $1,000-$2,500.

One recent citation was issued by city officers.

-- At 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Terry King II, 27, Coatesville, was stopped by Officer Matt Huffman on U.S. 231, north of the Putnam County Fairgrounds. King was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Sheriff's Dept.

* At 6:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, Jessica D. Rude, 19, Bainbridge, was northbound on County Road 100 East, crossing Crowe's Bridge.

Rude told Lt. Virgil Lanning she was halfway across when she observed headlights from the north. As she neared the exit of the bridge, Rude said the southbound vehicle, driven by Jay C. Stinson, 59, Greencastle, entered the bridge and struck the front of her vehicle.

Stinson said he was on southbound on County Road 100 East, approaching the bridge. As he entered the bridge Stinson said he saw Rude enter from the opposite side. Stinson said he stopped and Rude crossed the length of the bridge and hit his 1997 Toyota Tacoma.

Stinson also pointed out skid marks from his vehicle, saying he attempted to stop before being struck by Rude's 2003 Mercury Sable.

Rude was later issued citations for driving while suspended and operating without financial responsibility.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 12:35 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, Robert E. Dicks, 42, Roachdale, was westbound on State Road 236 when a deer crossed into the roadway from the north side.

Dicks told Deputy Matt Biggs he was unable to avoid the animal and struck it with the front end of his 2010 Volkswagen Jetta.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 1:02 a.m. Saturday, Avdo Brkic, 45, Louisville, Ky., was eastbound on State Road 240 at County Road 450 East.

Brkic advised Deputy Mike Downing that when he looked up he heard what sounded like an explosion. Brkic said his driver's side mirror struck the window of his 2014 Freightliner and shattered it.

Carl L. Hendricks, 25, Canal Winchester, Ohio, advised Downing that he was westbound on State Road 240 when he observed Brkic cross the center line, coming right at him.

Hendricks added that he nearly drove his 2014 Freightliner off the north side of the roadway to avoid Brkic, but the mirrors of the two vehicles struck each other, causing his to break and Brkic's to shatter his window.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 9:19 p.m. on Monday, Nathaniel A. Snyder, 30, Reelsville, was eastbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 625 West.

Snyder advised Biggs that a deer was in the roadway and he was unable to avoid hitting it, striking it with the driver's side of his 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. The animal caused extensive damage to the driver side door area.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

At 10:54 p.m., John S. Leisure, 64, Terre Haute, was westbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 625 West when a deer entered the roadway.

Leisure advised Biggs he was unable to avoid a collision and hit the animal with his 1999 Chevrolet S10.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

At 11:58 p.m., Elizabeth A. Pearson, 24, Madison, Wis., was northbound on U.S. 231 just south of County Road 500 North when a deer crossed into the roadway.

Pearson advised Biggs she was unable to avoid the deer and struck it with the right front of her 2014 Chrysler Town and Country, which disabled the vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 5:11 a.m. on Tuesday, Natalie Burgess, 31, Bloomingdale, was westbound on State Road 36, approaching Bainbridge.

Burgess advised Lanning that a deer entered the roadway and she was unable to avoid striking it with her 2014 Hyundai Tucson.

Damage was listed at $1,001-$2,500.

At 5:18 a.m., Sara K. Owens, 27, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 50 South at approximately County Road 475 East.

Owens advised Deputy Mike Downing that a deer ran into her path and although she tried to miss it she hit the animal with her 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.
