Cooking 101: Candy

Sunday, November 16, 2014

Did you know there are possible health benefits of chocolate? Have you ever wondered where candy originated from? Are you interested in learning how to make candy-inspired gift baskets for the holiday?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, you're invited to the 2014 candy-making lesson. Once again Putnam County Extension Homemakers and the Purdue Extension Service are teaming up with Sharon Black from the Putnam County Hospital and Culinary Arts students from Area 30 Career Center to offer another edition of Cooking 101.

This year's cooking program will feature candy making, just in time for the holiday entertaining season.

The 2014 Cooking 101 program is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 in the Community Room at Area 30 Career Center.

The program is open to the public but reservations are necessary. To make reservations, persons may call the Putnam County Extension Office at 653-8411.

Cost of the program, which includes demonstrations, handouts and tasting is $5.

Reservations must be made in advance, but participants can pay at the door.

Those attending the program will receive copies of recipes that are prepared, which will include a variety of tasty, easy and seasonal candy ideas. Due to limited parking, individuals attending are encouraged to carpool, if possible.

Visit www.extension.purdue.edu/putnam or contact the local Purdue Extension Office by calling 653-8411 for more information regarding this week's column topic or to RSVP for upcoming events. It is always best to call first to assure items are ready when you arrive and to RSVP for programs. While many publications are free, some do have a fee.
