At McAnally, the Lady Tiger Cubs hosted non-conference rival Crawfordsville, looking for their sixth win on the young season. The Athenians came into the battle looking for their fourth win. The Tiger Cubs got the exciting 48-43 win.

The opening period saw the guest get back-to-back threes from senior guard Lacey Garrett to go up 6-0. Undaunted, the host came storming back with back-to-back buckets from junior Allison White, followed by two free throws from senior center Jessica Lenihan to tie the score at six with 5:15 to play.

"Crawfordsville is a strong squad. They're like us with a good group of seniors, we can't let them jump out to and early lead. If we do it will be a battle," Key said

A battle it was as the opening quarter ended in a 8-8 tie. The second period saw the hosts out-score the visitors 15-10 to go into the break up 23-18. Lauren Bridgewater came off the bench to score seven in helping her team go up.

"We talked about not letting number 12 get loose for them and she did what our scouting report said we shouldn't do and they led early. We're a senior led team and it showed as we came fighting back. I was very pleased with Bridgewater's play off the bench in the second quarter," Key said.

The third quarter was the best of the night for the guests, out scoring the host 15-7 to go into the final period up 33-30. Thankfully the final period was all Greencastle. GHS scored 12 points from Lenihan, including a long three at the 5:01 mark to lead her team on a 12-3 run.

Key said after the game, "I was very pleased with how our team came fighting back there at the start of the fourth quarter. They just did not give up, I was proud of our bench play tonight as everyone who played scored. Jessica's play in the fourth was her knowing what to do and then just doing it."

Lenihan said GHS had a gameplan and knew what to do.

"We knew coming in that they could shoot from outside and that they would be strong in the middle. It was a spot where I wanted the ball and felt I could help out."

For the game Lenihan led all scorers with 16 points and five rebounds. Bridgewater added 9 points, White with 8 points and 8 boards, Callan Taylor added 6 points, Paige Bragg with 4, Brynne Shuee and Madison Trout both had two and Bethanie Burgeson had one point.

  • There are a few errors in this story.

1.The back to back 3's at the beginning of the game were not scored by "0" Lacey Garrett, but by "12" Paige Schueren

    2. Brynne Shuee never played in this game. The 2 points were scored by senior Delanie Stoltey

It would also be great to print the box score.
