The South Putnam girls' basketball team didn't fare too well when Danville came to visit on Wednesday. The Eagles were unable to close the gap and lost 62-28.

The Lady Eagles (2-4) were only down 10-6 after one quarter. Freshman Miranda Bieghlar scored twice with sophomore Jenna Carmichael adding a bucket.

But turnovers by South Putnam helped Danville (5-1) to a 27-point second quarter. The Warriors pulled away and the game was never again close.

"They're a good team," SPHS coach Tim Garver said. "Again, we still get shots we just have to knock shots down. I think that the effort is definitely there. Big thing is just basketball knowledge and knowing what's going on. Those are things that we have to work on. We're working."

Beighlar was the leading scorer with eight and senior Katie Hewitt scored seven.

"We just tried to stay back in man-to-man," Garver said. "We did some things that kept it fairly close. Then all of a sudden we let the thing open up. The second quarter was definitely the key to the game."

South Putnam's next game will be on the road against South Vermillion on Tuesday.
