Tigers move to 6-1 with win over Spalding

Savannah Trees scored 20 and led DePauw to a 67-43 win over visiting Spalding at the Neal Fieldhouse. The Tigers, ranked 14th in the latest Division III coaches' poll and 16th by D3hoops.com, improved to 6-1, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 4-3.

The Tigers scored eight straight in the first half capped by Lauren Abendroth's three to with 9:44 left take a 15-6 lead. DePauw led by as many as 14 in the opening 20 minutes and took a 32-20 advantage to the break.

Spalding scored the first bucket of the second half, but the Tigers scored eight straight including seven from Trees to take a 40-22 lead. The Golden Eagles got no closer than 15 the rest of the way.

In addition to Trees' 20, Taylor Howard added 10. Hannah Lukemeyer hauled down a career-best seven rebounds and Emma Ondik dished out four assists.

Kayla Styles led Spalding with a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Jessica Guy added 11 points and three assists.

DePauw shot 44.8 percent for the game including 50 percent in the second half, while Spalding shot just 31.5 percent from the floor. The Tigers held a 41-34 edge on the boards and committed just 10 turnovers to the Golden Eagles' 17.

The win was the Tigers' 54th straight regular season home victory.

DePauw returns to North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday, Dec. 13, when it travels to Oberlin for a 3 p.m. contest.
