Federal agents gather evidence at Putnam County Sheriff's Office

Monday, December 15, 2014

Federal agents spent part of Monday conducting an investigation at the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Attorney's Office confirmed.

Agents were seen removing boxes from the sheriff's office on Greencastle's south side.

The agents also spent time in the Morgan County town of Waverly Monday in a related investigation. The agents were reportedly at the home of Harrison Township Fire Chief David Allison, where at least a dozen unmarked vehicles were seen.

Allison, who also serves as a Putnam County reserve deputy, was at the Putnam County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday.

Contrary to reports by other media, officials could neither confirm nor deny if the matter is related to the T.J. Smith investigation.

Smith, a former deputy, was sentenced earlier this month to 14 months in federal prison on a pair of police brutality convictions.

  • Derrhunter, I definitely agree with "they should charge all officers involved in the tj smith case." However, I disagree with taking down the entire GPD force. There are a coupld officers that are truly there to better and serve the community. To say ALL of the officers are crummy is not fair. PC should have done a better job at running things long ago and we probably wouldn't have had all of these problems.

  • I believe this "GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING" attitude does not start or stop with the Putnam County Sheriff Department...
