County Jail

Four people were booked into the Putnam County Jail on Tuesday.

* At 1:08 a.m., Frank Everett Stanley, 33, Spencer, was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and operating while intoxicated.

At 2:18 a.m., Nicholas Lee Canfield, 34, Birch River, W. Va., was charged with operating while intoxicated.

At 6:07 p.m., Kyle Alan McCammon, 26, Cloverdale, was arrested on a probation violation.

At 7:45 p.m., Chelsi Marie Benassi, 20, Greencastle, was charged with domestic battery.

Sheriff's Dept.

Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies investigated two accidents Tuesday.

* At 5:10 p.m., Joseph D. Waters, 18, Cloverdale, was westbound on Interstate 70 near the 43-mile marker when a semi-tractor trailer began weaving and crossing the center line, which caused him to swerve his 2006 Chrysler Sebring to the left in an attempt to avoid a collision with the trailer.

Waters told Lt. Dwight Simmons he lost control of his vehicle on the rumble strips near the median and left the roadway, striking a cable barrier before coming to rest.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 6:10 p.m., Joseph C. Hardebeck, 45, Carthage, was southbound on U.S. 231 when he signaled intent to turn left onto Tall Oaks Lane.

Hardebeck told Deputy Kyle Gibbons that as he began to make his turn, Sharon K. Freeman, 60, Cloverdale, attempted to overtake his 1997 Chevrolet pickup, which resulted in front right impact with Freeman's 2003 Kia Sedona.

Freeman said as Hardebeck began to slow, she attempted to overtake his vehicle on the left while in a passing zone. However, she did not observe him use his turn signal to show intent to turn.

Hardebeck's vehicle sustained moderate damage to the left front and driver's side door panel. Freeman's vehicle sustained moderate damage to her hood, quarter panel and passenger-side door.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has performed one medical assist, one lift assist and responded to one dispatch recently.

* At 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, GFD was called to a fire alarm at 507 S. Locust St. The alarm was found to have been triggered by excessive hairspray usage.
