Park programs go inside for Boxing Day, Walk and Talk

With winter due to officially arrive on Saturday, Dec. 21 upcoming programs of the Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department have taken on an indoor approach.

On Friday, Dec. 26, the Parks Department will be holding a free 1-2 p.m. celebration for Boxing Day at the park office across from the DAR log cabin at Robe-Ann Park.

All participants are asked to bring a canned food item or two to the event and it will be explained how that fits in to the Boxing Day tradition.

Boxing Day is a holiday tradition in the United Kingdom that occurs the day after Christmas when servants and tradespeople receive gifts -- known as a Christmas box -- from their bosses or employers.

Meanwhile, all walkers and runners are reminded that the Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department has a free program that can assist some New Year's resolutions. So break out those workout shoes and join the Winter Edition of Walk and Talk from 8-10 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays during January and February in DePauw University's Tennis and Track Center.

The Winter Edition Walk and Talk will be on the following dates: Jan. 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28 and 30 and will be extended into February on Feb. 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25 and 27. Not only is the program free, but participants have the chance to walk away with prizes.
