County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 8 a.m. Saturday, Derrick Mathew McGaughey, 27, Greencastle, was arrested on a court order.

* At 11:48 a.m. on Sunday, Leonard Lamont Ford, 47, Overland, was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving on a suspended license.

*At 12:29 a.m. on Monday, Nicholas Lane Cooper, 44, Monrovia, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

At 4:19 p.m., Michael James Vance, 24, Greencastle, was charged with violation of home detention.

At 9:23 p.m., Jonathon Leon Earl, 20, Junction City, Kan., was arrested for criminal mischief and criminal trespassing.

City Police

A 54-year-old Clay County woman is being charged with theft after a reported shoplifting incident Saturday at the Greencastle Walmart store, Greencastle City Police reported.

Sharon Metz, Brazil, was lodged in the Putnam County Jail after taking a reported $415.06 worth of merchandise without paying for it, police said.

Metz reportedly tried to take two trash cans, a variety of clothes, candy, toys, DVDs, soap and a package of bows.

She was arrested Officer Albert Epple at 5:40 p.m.

Meanwhile, a 34-year-old Greencastle man was arrested on alcohol-related charges after reportedly being involved in an accident late Friday night on Franklin Street near DePauw Avenue.

Larry Dale Patterson Jr. is being charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after reportedly registering a .13 percent blood-alcohol content following testing after the 11:45 p.m. accident in the 700 block of East Franklin Street.

Patterson's 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe reportedly struck a parked 2007 Honda Accord, owned by Matthew Welker, Greencastle.

Patterson told Sgt. Charles Inman he did not see the parked car in time to avoid a collision, which pushed the Welker vehicle 50 feet after impact, the police report noted.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

In a 5 p.m. mishap Dec. 11, Corey Bunten, 26, Greencastle, was ticketed for leaving the scene of a property-damage accident and driving with a suspended license with a prior offense after his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado struck a parked 2001 Pontiac Grand Am owned by Kandi Huffman, Cloverdale.

Bunten left the scene, police said, reportedly telling a witness he was late for work.

The Huffman car was parked near 1022 Castlebury Drive when the accident occurred, Officer Nick Eastham reported.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

-- At 8:08 p.m. Dec. 11, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on the southwest corner of the courthouse square as Randy Wingler, 56, Shell Lake, Wis., attempted to turn his 2002 Peterbilt semi left onto Washington Street from Jackson Street when the rig struck a 2007 Hyundai Accent, driven by Michael Fiscus, 56, Greencastle.

Fiscus was stopped westbound on Washington Street, poised to turn left onto Jackson, when the collision occurred.

Reserve Officer David Clodfelter listed total damage at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 10:03 a.m. Dec. 13, a two-vehicle accident was reported on Washington Street near Indiana Street as Natalie Abbott, 21, Winnetka, Ill., attempted to park her 2006 Hummer and struck the front bumper and quarterpanel of a parked 2001 Honda Accord, owned by Adriane Doherty, Carmel.

Officer Ed Wilson estimated total damage in the mishap at $2,500-$5,000.

Sheriff's Dept.

Seven recent accidents were investigated by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies.

* At 2:33 a.m. on Saturday, Tori D. Nunn, 18, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 near County Road 350 North.

Nunn told Deputy Kyle Gibbons that her 2002 Jeep Liberty suddenly lost traction with the roadway, which caused her to lose control and go into a ditch on the west side.

Unable to correct her course of travel, Nunn's vehicle made impact with a guardrail also on the west side of the roadway.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

At 3 a.m., Anthony A. Ramirez Jr., 27, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., was westbound on Interstate 70 near the 49-mile marker when he lost control of his vehicle due to the ice-covered roadway.

Ramirez advised Sgt. Gregg Slover that his 2006 Ford F150 spun out of control and into the ditch on the north side of the road, rolling over several times before coming to rest.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

At 4:12 a.m., Kelvin F. Dories Jr., 27, St. Louis, was traveling on I-70 near the 43-mile marker when his 2010 Freightliner lost traction with the roadway due to icy conditions.

Dories told Deputy Gibbons that his semi, which was pulling a trailer weighing approximately 15,000 pounds, slid into the center median, making impact into the cable barrier, causing the semi to jackknife.

Dories had no injuries. However, the semi sustained moderate front-end damage, while the trailer had none.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

At 4:35 a.m., Justin P. Lamison, 30, Narvon, Pa., was westbound on I-70 when he lost control of his vehicle due to the ice-covered roadway.

Lamison advised Sgt. Slover that his 2009 Ford Econoline E450 spun out of control into the median where it was stopped by a cable barrier.

Both the vehicle and the barrier were damaged in the crash.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 3:44 a.m. on Sunday, Joan D. Soto, 19, Tucson, Ariz., was westbound on I-70 when her vehicle spun out due to the ice-covered roadway.

Soto advised Deputy Tyler Turner that her 2007 Toyota Tacoma rolled several times before coming to rest in the left lane.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
