In an effort to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable New Year's Eve, Moore's Bar owners Jay and Jackie Hopkins (left) along with Eddie Felling, Amy Walters, Darrel Felling and his wife Jill of Felling and Felling Law Office have come together to sponsor Operation Safe Ride. Those looking to celebrate New Year's Eve at Moore's Bar will not only receive a free ride to the bar, but a free ride home as well from Greencastle's newest cab service, A Cab, owned by David Evens (right). Putnam County residents have no excuse to drink and drive this New Year's Eve with Greencastle's newest taxi service, A Cab, offering free rides home to those in need thanks to Moore's Bar and Felling and Felling Law Office.

In an effort to be proactive this New Year's Eve, Moore's Bar along with the Fellings came together to ensure the safety of Putnam County residents during traditionally, one of the year's biggest drinking days.

"The Fellings and I had talked about trying to be proactive," Moore's Bar owner Jackie Hopkins said. "We wanted to do something around St. Patrick's Day, but it fell through. So, we thought the next bigger night is New Year's Eve and we have a cab service now, so it all just came together. We're deeming it 'Operation Safe Ride.'"

Although A Cab will be offering free rides home from all the social clubs and bars throughout the evening, those looking to ring in the new year at Moore's with Blues Side Up, which will perform starting at 10 p.m., are also eligible for a free ride to Moore's as well.

"A Cab is going to offer free rides from all the social clubs and bars to home," A Cab owner David Evens said. "We will also be offering free rides to Moore's, but from other locations it will only be a free ride home. Thus, normal rates will apply."

There will be at least three cabs running throughout the evening, with Moore's Bar having a dedicated one. A Cab will take reservations for arrivals, but all departures will be on a first-come, first-served basis with the free rides beginning at 6 p.m.

"This is just great for the community. Three different companies -- A Cab, Moore's Bar and Felling and Felling Law Office -- are coming together to provide a safe ride for the community," Evens added. "This will help police and law enforcement not only keep people off the roads, but ensure that people get home safely."

Hopkins noted that anyone is welcome to participate in Operation Safe Ride even if they are not planning on staying for the entire New Year's Eve celebration.

"It just doesn't have to be while you're here listening to the band," Hopkins explained. "You can just come out for dinner and a few drinks and go home or if you just don't want to drive that night. We will have him here for anybody who would like to use him."

Those looking to make reservations for a table at Moore's Bar may call 653-9939, while those looking to make a reservation to taken to the bar via A Cab may call A Cab at 720-4050.

"We were very pleased with the new taxi service available to the citizens of our community," Darrel Felling said. "New Year's Eve is traditionally the biggest night of celebration. It is our hope that the service will be utilized to ensure those folks who do drink get back home safely."

  • I love this businesses coming together to promote safe rides home! It's a win for the businesses, but it is a big win for the passengers! Keep up the good ideas. This will save a lot of grief for many people.
