A man was airlifted from a State Road 240 accident scene Wednesday evening following a one-vehicle mishap.

According to Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Matt Biggs, emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene on State Road 240 near County Road 525 East at 6:44 p.m.

Upon arrival, Biggs observed the vehicle of Khai T. Vien, 51, McCordsville, off the north side with the driver still inside.

Biggs advised Vien was traveling east on S.R. 240 and as he approached a bend in the roadway, Vien lost control of his 1999 Toyota Avalon and left the north side.

"As the vehicle left the roadway, it slid down an embankment, which caused the vehicle to roll over at least one time," Biggs added. "Upon arrival, the driver was still trapped within the vehicle."

Upon extrication from the vehicle, Vien was airlifted by StatFlight to St. Vincent Hospital for treatment.

Biggs noted that although the extent of Vien's injuries is not known, he sustained serious lacerations to his facial area, as well as a general complaint of pain throughout his body.

Assisting at the scene was the Fillmore Police Department, Greencastle Fire Department and Operation Life.

  • He wasn't extracted, he was extricated.

    I hope he recovers quickly.
