County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail on Wednesday.

* At 1:02 a.m., Keith Alan Lyon, 37, Reelsville, was arrested for battery.

* At 10:05 a.m., Melissa Ann Miller, 36, Roachdale, was charged with possession of methamphetamines and a probation violation.

Sheriff's Dept.

One recent accident was worked by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies.

* At 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jessie L. Lund, 55, Cloverdale, was westbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 725 East.

Lund told Sgt. Craig Sibbitt that she had taken her eyes off the roadway after being distracted by her three-year-old granddaughter who was in the rear passenger seat of her 2009 Dodge Journey.

Lund said when she looked back up, she was unable to avoid the collision and hit a guardrail face, which folded up approximately 60 feet before the vehicle came to final rest facing north.

Damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

City Police

Three recent property-damage accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 12:53 p.m. Sunday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported north of the city on Waterworks Hill.

Officer Ed Wilson reported that a 2009 Mazda, driven by Cole Dean, 19, Roachdale, was northbound in the right lane of U.S. 231 near County Road 75 North as Tiffany Thomas, 26, Indianapolis, attempted to pass in the left lane in a 2008 Pontiac G6.

Each driver told Officer Wilson that the other turned into the side of his or her vehicle. A witness, however, said the Dean vehicle drifted into the side of the Thomas car, resulting in the accident.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 4:23 p.m. Dec. 27, a two-car accident occurred on Bloomington Street near East Washington Street.

Claire Webb, 58, Indianapolis, driving a 1999 Buick Century, was northbound on Bloomington Street, approaching the T intersection when her car slid on wet pavement as she braked.

Officer Darrel Bunten reported that the Webb car ran into the rear of a 2006 Mercury, driven by Gary Boler, 51, Cloverdale, who was stopped at the light preparing to turn left onto Washington Street.

Total damage was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 8:50 a.m. Dec. 26, a 45-year-old Greencastle woman escaped injury in a one-car accident on State Road 240, east of Greencastle.

Officer Bunten reported that Jennifer Quigley was eastbound, driving a 2007 Ford Mustang, when she entered a curve and her car slid on a patch of ice on the roadway.

The Mustang went down an embankment on the north side of the road, striking a tree and a fence row at the Rodney Shoemaker property.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

One recent speeding citation was issued by Greencastle officers.

* At 6:16 p.m. Wednesday, Emmalee Whitman, 23, Cloverdale, was ticketed by Reserve Officer David Clodfelter for 48 mph in a 30-mph zone on South Jackson Street.

City Fire

Greencastle firefighters responded to one recent fire alarm.

* At 8:53 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, GFD was called to a reported vehicle fire at 400 N. College Ave. but upon arrival, found that the vehicle had already been extinguished.
