County schools on 2-hour delays Wednesday

Tuesday, January 6, 2015

With Tuesday's frigid temperatures expected to drop even lower by Wednesday morning, Putnam County Schools have all announced two-hour delays for the morning.

Cloverdale, Greencastle, North Putnam and South Putnam all announced two-hour delays before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Putnam is one of 17 Indiana counties under a wind chill warning as of 8:25 p.m. Tuesday. Wind chills are forecast in the range of -20 to -30 late Tuesday night and early Wednesday. Temperatures will fall to near -5 and a west wind will develop 20-30mph.

In addition to the dangerous cold and wind chills, blowing and drifting snow will be issues into Wednesday.

  • I miss Indiana and Greencastle, but I do not miss the bone chilling cold.

  • The temps are actually going to be about 10 degrees COLDER 2 hours later. Every news channel has reported that..you'd think the superintendents would have seen that. The bus that caught that caught fire yesterday morning and the students had to evacuate...if that would have happened during these temps, and the kids had to stand in this cold waiting for help to arrive..it could be very dangerous.

  • A school superintendent's decision to close schools is a difficult part of his/her job to make. Many factors need to be reasoned out before they make the decision. Maybe people/parents ought to go and visit with the superintendent and find out what all goes on with him/her.

  • I work at the school every day. I know how difficult it is. However it's a no brainer when it comes to child safety. Many schools closed including IPS..but none in Putnam County.

  • Mary7279--I am very sure the superintendent has child safety at the top of their list and mind. What kind of work do you do at the school that makes you more qualified to know better than the superintendent?? Perhaps you need to "chill" out and not be so ultra-dramatic.
