County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 11 a.m. on Friday, Sean Patrick McClamroch, 35, Waveland, was arrested for nonsupport of a dependent.

At 6:21 p.m., Monte B. Mills, 43, Greencastle, was arrested for failure to appear.

At 10:45 p.m., Adam Carl Hale, 20, Bainbridge, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

At 10:48 p.m., Tristan Jason Gross, 18, Greencastle, was arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of paraphernalia.

* At 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, James Robert McKee, 34, Cloverdale, was charged with possession of a handgun without a permit.

At 10:30 p.m., Glenn DeWayne Sanders Jr., 39, Cloverdale, was arrested for domestic battery.

At 11 p.m., Sherri Ann Sanders, 41, Cloverdale, was charged with domestic battery.

* At 11:42 p.m. Sunday, Shawn Matthew Malone, 37, Bloomingdale, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

* At 2:45 a.m. Monday, Charlotte Lynn Ladigo, 39, Lebanon, was charged with theft.

At 6 p.m., Jenarius Siree Thurman, 22, Indianapolis, was charged with possession of marijuana and operating while intoxicated.

At 7:19 p.m., Darrick Paul Freeman, 25, was arrested for possession of paraphernalia.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 5:15 p.m. Monday, Joni Sue Bowling, 27, Cloverdale, was arrested for theft in connection with an incident at the Walmart store on Greencastle's East Side.

Bowling allegedly took $103.26 worth of merchandise without paying after buying a number of grocery items, police said.

Officer Darrel Bunten reported that Bowling concealed items such as two cases of Red Bull, disposable diapers, hair dye, a sippy cup and more under a blanket that she had reportedly removed the price tag from and draped over her toddler and the remaining items in her cart.

Taken to Putnam County Jail on a theft charge, Bowling was also wanted on an Owen County warrant for check deception.

* At 4:10 a.m. Sunday, Jaramy Lewis, 24, Terre Haute, was arrested by Officer Nick Eastham after a traffic stop on State Road 240, east of Bloomington Street.

Lewis was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a Vigo County warrant for disorderly conduct.

Sheriff's Dept.

* At 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, Tony Starr, 31, Reelsville, was westbound on County Road 300 South just west of County Road 250 West.

Starr told Lt. Donnie Pettit he swerved to avoid a deer in the road, which resulted in his 2013 Ford Taurus going off the south side of the roadway and striking a tree.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

At 11:20 a.m., Sawyer Arnold, 19, Fillmore, was driving a 2000 John Deere 4640 on County Road 50 North just east of County Road 300 East.

Arnold advised Pettit that he was pulling a large piece of equipment described as a Phillips Rotary Harrow, which took up half the roadway. He noted that he stopped just prior to a slight grade in the road and allowed traffic to pass.

Arnold said he continued when he thought traffic was clear and was struck by Richard Gick, Fillmore, who was eastbound in a 1999 Dodge Dakota.

Gick was eastbound on County Road 50 when he crested a hill. Gick said he was looking at the tractor but failed to see the equipment being pulled behind it. Although he attempted to veer to the right, he was unable to avoid a collision.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 1:35 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, Lacey E. Bryan, 21, Brazil, was northbound on Manhattan Road behind Lori A. Pierce, 47, Brazil, who was following a UPS truck.

Bryan advised Pettit that the UPS truck stopped at a mailbox causing Pierce to stop. However, Bryan was unable to stop her 1999 Monte Carlo in time to avoid rear-ending Pierce's 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

At 2:50 p.m., Darlene Corre, 60, Rockville, was westbound on U.S. 36 in the area just east of County Road 25 West.

Corre told Pettit she struck a deer that had entered the roadway with her 2008 Lexus ES250.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

*At 12:36 a.m. on Thursday, Joanna M. Hood, 22, Bainbridge, was westbound on County Road 800 North when she entered a downhill "S" curve on County Road 800 North approximately 3057 East.

Hood advised Deputy Mike Downing that she braked for the curves and lost control of her 2008 Nissan Altima due to bad tires.

When Downing had asked Hood why she had left the scene of the accident, she replied "I wasn't hurt and I just live down the road. I told my dad what had happened and he replied we would take care of it in the morning."

Hood's vehicle left the north side of the roadway, flipping onto its top, coming to rest in a ditch.

PMH Ambulance and Floyd Township Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene to render medical aid to the driver.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 3:23 a.m. on Friday, Michael A. Conner, 35, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 450 North near County Road 400 West.

Conner told Downing a deer entered the roadway and he was unable to avoid striking the animal with his 1997 Mercury Tracer.

Damage was listed at $1,001-$2,501.

At 1:05 p.m., Richard C. Sotomayer, 63, Indianapolis, was southbound on County Road 500 West as Cecily F. Wilson, 24, Roachdale, was southbound on County Road 500 West.

Sotomayer advised Capt. Tom Helmer he had stopped in the road and started to back up to enable him to turn his 2014 Mercedes Benz Spinter into a private drive when his vehicle was truck by Wilson.

Sotomayer advised that he was "at fault" as he failed to observe Wilson prior to backing up.

Wilson said she was following Sotomayer when he stopped and began backing up. Having no time to react, she was unable to avoid hitting it with her 2004 Chevrolet.

Damage was estimated at$2,501-$5,000.

* At 6:08 p.m. on Saturday, Isaiah T. Long, 17, Greencastle, was southbound on State Road 243.

Long advised Deputy Tyler Turner that he lost control of his 2003 Ford Taurus in a turn in the road, causing him to leave the roadway and strike a tree before coming to rest in a ditch.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 4:54 p.m. on Sunday, Sara H. Wetnight, 28, Brazil, was northbound on Manhattan Road when she entered a slight curve in the roadway and lost control.

Wetnight advised Reserve Officer Rick Lambert that her 2003 Dodge Caravan left the roadway, crossed a private drive and became embedded in the mud of the shoulder of the road, causing damage to the undercarriage, right front tire and body of the minivan.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

At 4:57 p.m., Theresa Creed, 55, Brazil, was westbound on U.S. 40 when she lost her vehicle due to the icy roadway.

Creed advised Helmer that her 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer left the roadway on the north side, striking an embankment. Impact caused it to turn over at least twice before coming to rest facing north.

Creed suffered lacerations to the left side of her head. Front-seat passenger Larry G. Creed, 58, Brazil, suffered small lacerations to his hands and complained about pain throughout his body, while the rear passenger Abigail Creed, 10, Brazil, complained of pain on the right side of her head.

All occupants were transported to Putnam County Hospital via Operation Life.

Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

At 6:20 p.m., Thomas F. Werling, 3, Wapakoneta, Ohio, along with Hm Riggs, 61, Brazil were both westbound on U.S. 40 near Skyline Drive when a vehicle in front of them lost control.

Werling advised Sgt. Gregg Slover that he was struck from behind by another vehicle, which caused his 2007 Honda Civic to spin out of control and make contact with Riggs' 2015 Toyota Avalon. However, Werling was unsure who struck his car.

Riggs said he began to slow due to a vehicle in front of him spinning out of control. Riggs said that his vehicle was then struck by Werling, which caused his canopy air bags to deploy.

Slover noted that there was no evidence to suggest Riggs struck Werling's vehicle, causing it to spin out. The roadway was also said to be ice covered and extremely slick.

No damage was done to the vehicle that was reported to have spun out of control causing this incident. That vehicle was not involved in the actual collision.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

At 6:25 p.m., Alan L. McIntyre, 21, Spencer, was westbound on U.S. 36 near County Road 700 West.

McIntyre said he observed an oncoming 1997 Mercury Sable, driven by Jon Mark A. Sabel, 21, Fort Wayne, lose control on the icy roadway heading eastbound.

Sabel's vehicle spun 180-degrees before ending up in the westbound lane where it struck McIntyre's 2008 Mazda Tribute in the rear-quarter panel.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

At 7:25 p.m., Mary E. Denny, was westbound on U.S. 36 near County Road 600 East when she lost control of her vehicle on the ice-covered roadway.

Denny advised Reserve Officer Ken Rozelle that she hit a guardrail on the north side of the road, causing her 2000 GM Sierra to sin and hit the guardrail on the south side of the road.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

At 8 p.m., Kandra L. Cherry, 47, Indianapolis, was eastbound on U.S. 36 when she lost control of her 1996 Ford Explorer.

Cherry advised Slover that she was unable to regain control, which caused her to leave the roadway on the north side and strike a guardrail.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 6:50 p.m. on Monday, Drew A. Schnitz, 20, Hunington, was westbound on U.S.. 40, just west of U.S. 231 when he believed he fell asleep behind the wheel.

Schnitz advised Reserve Officer Rick Lambert that he overcorrected his 2001 Volkswagen Passat and struck Julia A. Kapke, 44, Brazil, in the rear quarter panel of her 2011 Ford Escape.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

At 8:17 p.m., Jane E. Sweet, 72, Decatur, Ill., was westbound on U.S. 36 when she lost control of her 2000 Dodge Intrepid due to snowy conditions.

Sweet advised Deputy Matt Biggs that her vehicle began to spin, striking a guardrail before sliding off the south side of the roadway.

Sweet was transported from the scene by fire personnel to meet PMH Ambulance to be checked out.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

At 9:30 p.m., Nicholas A. Hartsock, 21, Avon, was southbound on County Road 700 East just north of County Road 900 North.

Hartsock told Deputy Biggs ,he was coming down a hill when his traction control engaged causing the rear tires of his 2002 Ford Mustang to lock up.

Hartsock began to slide on the snowy road, leave the roadway on the left side and striking a tree head on.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 7 a.m. on Tuesday, William G. Yoder Jr., 25, Cisne, Ill., was northbound on U.S. 231 as James K. Grayson, 21, Avon was southbound.

Grayson advised Helmer he was attempting to turn left onto Interstate 70 East and he had thought the automatic signal indicated a green arrow. As he proceeded into the intersection he was struck by Yoder's 1997 Chevrolet van.

Yoder said the northbound lanes had the green signal and he proceeded when Grayson's 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer turned in front of him. Having no time to react, Yoder was unable to avoid a collision.

Yoder noted that he had a seatbelt on at the time, but impact caused it to disengage from its lock, which resulted in his chest making impact with the steering wheel causing pain. However, he declined medical attention.

Assisting at the scene was the Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department.
