DPU grad McMillin, Mullis in concert Friday at Inn at DePauw

Chicago-based singer-songwriter David McMillin, a 2006 DePauw University graduate, will return to Greencastle for a concert at the Inn at DePauw on Friday, Jan. 9.

He will be joined by opening act Anthony Mullis (aka Gus Moon) for an evening of original music, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

In addition to the Friday night concert, McMillin also will give a craft talk on songwriting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in room 1029 of the Green Center for the Performing Arts at DPU.

Both the Thursday afternoon talk and the Friday evening concert are free and open to the public.

An English (writing) major as an undergraduate, McMillin has toured extensively since graduating. opening for such acts as Shelby Lynne, Third Eye Blind, Sister Hazel and the Goo Goo Dolls, among others.

McMillin's original music has been described as folk rock and alternative country.

He was awarded the "Best Folk, Country or Americana" title by the Chicago Reader in 2008. More recently he was placed fourth in the 2014 Telluride Troubadour Competition.

McMillin currently tours as both a solo act and with his band, Fort Frances.

Mullis, meanwhile, grew up in nearby Bainbridge and began playing music and writing songs while still in his teens.

He has opened for McMillin and also for singer-songwriters Peter Case and Carrie Newcomer. His original song, "Ticket-Taker Blues," will appear in the indie feature film "Reparation," which was shot in Greencastle last summer and is set to be released this spring.

Mullis has recently released a CD with the trio Trollkiller, with whom he regularly performs.
