Alice C. Cantonwine

Alice C. Cantonwine, age 89, a lifelong resident of Greencastle, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015.

Born March 5, 1925 in Putnam County, she was the daughter of Dwight E. and Dovie (Leucas) Vanlandingham and was a 1942 graduate of Reelsville High School. She married C. Estle Cantonwine on Jan. 14, 1945 and he preceded her in death on October 3, 1986.

Alice was a lifelong farmer and was the recipient of the 2002 State of Indiana Farm Family Award for her dedication and devotion to Putnam County Agriculture. She served on the Putnam County Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals.

She was passionate about riding and showing horses. She claimed to be the first woman to waterski on Cataract Lake.

Survivors include her son Jeffery W. Cantonwine, grandson Kurtis L. Cantonwine and granddaughter Jackie R. Cantonwine.

The family will receive friends to share in memories of Alice on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015 from 4-6 p.m. at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory to the Humane Society of Putnam County.
