Coble's 24 points, Bollman's double-double too much for Rox

Saturday, January 10, 2015

It took a four-quarter effort on Friday against Rockville, which had a big height advantage with its eight six-footers, but the Greencastle boys' basketball team was up to the challenge. Helped along by a Brody Bollman double-double, Greencastle pulled out the win 52-41.

"I thought defensively we were pretty good tonight," Greencastle coach Troy Greenlee said. "I told our guys in the locker room that you are always going to shoot the lights out. If you have a night that you shoot well and then defensively if you play well, you can have big wins. We were just able to keep them at a distance that was comfortable."

The game began close with both teams fighting and grabbing rebounds. The second quarter began with Greencastle down 11-10. However, the Tiger Cub defense held the Rox to just a three points in the second quarter. The Tiger Cubs were actually leading with seven rebounds to Rockville's four at halftime.

"It's something we struggled with all year," Bollman said. "We worked on rebounds a lot this week. I think it finally clicked that it's one thing holding us back. If we block out we can beat anybody."

After halftime it became a track race with the tempo picking up. Ryan Coble found himself ungaurded for a number of open attempts.

He had 11 of his game-high 24 points in the third.

"My teammates screened for me," Coble said. "They tried to get me into the right positions and I try to do what I can to win games. If I score points when we win I'm glad if I assist then that's good too."

Greencastle only built on its lead as the game continued into the fourth as Rockville went to a full-court zone.

"We try to stay calm when people are pressing us," Coble said. "As long as we can do that, then we can get the ball up the floor and get good shots. If we make sure that we are under control, we'll be alright."

Even with the zone and the size advantage the Rox didn't gain much of an advantage because of good blocking out by the Tiger Cubs.

"There's no real big secrets," Greenlee said. "You've just got to put a body on somebody and go get the ball. With our size disadvantage at times It makes it a little difficult.

We have to have every guy on the floor feel like he is the No. 1 rebounder on the team We can't allow one guy to be the dominant rebounder. We have to have five guys all the time."

They outscored the Rox 15-11 in the fourth to take the victory. The next game for Greencastle is Saturday at home against West Vigo.
