Fillmore welcomes Meredith Trusty

FILLMORE -- A mostly uneventful first meeting of the year for the Fillmore Town Council was highlighted Thursday by the first official meeting of a new town council member.

Third Ward Councilman Meredith Trusty took his place with fellow councilman Curt Leonard and President Alan Jones, as the council eased its way into the new year with a brief meeting.

Trusty replaces Tami Van Rensselaer, who stepped down when she moved out of Fillmore late in 2014.

The board discussed the need for road patching, a curiosity at this time of year, perhaps brought on by an unseasonably warm and wet December.

Jones said he had never seen roads in such need of patching at this time of year, with damage more consistent with early spring.

Town Marshal Darrel Bunten said he would look into what solutions are available at this time of year.

Clerk-Treasurer Wanda Seidler reported that the 2015 town budget is still under review by the Department of Local Government Finance.

Siedler also discussed a new disconnection policy with the board, which would involve a 90-day deferral for delinquent accounts. Seidler said she believed the deferral would allow those with delinqent accounts to catch up incrementally while continuing to pay their current bills.

Trusty concurred with her assessment, calling it a good idea.

Leonard also brought up the need for a town representative on the county Animal Control and Care Advisory Board.

The Fillmore Town Council meets at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of the month at the Fillmore Town Hall, 2 N. Main St.
