County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 3:23 a.m. on Friday, Amanda Sue Shelton, 26, was charged with disorderly conduct.

* At 1:46 p.m. on Saturday, William C. May, 27, Fillmore, was arrested for battery.

At 10:06 p.m., Chad Jason Ramsey, 42, Crawfordsville, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

* At 12:18 a.m. on Sunday, Johannah Marie Kellie, 23, Roachdale, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and check forgery.

* At 5:03 p.m. on Monday, Brandon Matthew Springate, 36, Indianapolis, was arrested for contempt of court.

Sheriff's Dept.

* At 3:04 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, Cheryl R. Selvey, 44, Greencastle, was backing out of a driveway on County Road 425 West.

Selvey advised she didn't see Jackie A. Scanland III., 39, Greencastle, until she was already in the road.

Scanland advised that he saw Selvey's 2014 Toyota Sienna backing out of the driveway, but was unable to stop his 2001 International Straight Truck in time.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 4:25 p.m. on Friday, Sherman H. Shrader, 51, Cloverdale, was traveling southbound on State Road 75 when Kerri R. Clark, 22, Greencastle, pulled in front of him.

Shrader advised Deputy Adam Hull he attempted to avoid the collision with Clark's 2003 Grand Prix GT, but was unable to.

Clark advised that she was westbound and stopped at the stop sign on State Road 240 and didn't see Shrader coming, so she pulled out and collided with his 1996 Pontiac Transport.

Clark was cited for driving on a suspended license.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 4:14 p.m. on Saturday, Christopher W. Beaman, 46, Cloverdale, was traveling on State Road 240 East near State Road 75 in a 1996 Chevrolet GC2.

Beaman advised Deputy Adam Hull that he though Donald J. Hubbard Jr., 19, Roachdale, was going to make a right hand turn, so he attempted to cross the intersection. However, Hubbard continued south and the two were unable to avoid contact with his 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

At 7:56 p.m., Ashley A. Scott, 23, Lebanon, was traveling northbound on County Road 250 East just south of North Putnam High School.

Scott advised Deputy Mike Downing that a deer ran into the path of her 2004 Dodge Stratus and she was unable to avoid the animal, which caused damage to the front driver's side grill, hood and headlight area.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 12:17 a.m. on Sunday, Tai N. Vinh, 23, Terre Haute, was eastbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 350 West.

Vinh advised Downing that a deer ran into the path of his 2005 Acura TSX and he was unable to avoid hitting the animal, which caused damage to the front grill, passenger side headlight area, hood and passenger side fender.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

At 6:30 p.m., Dylan J. Vesey, 19, Ladoga, was traveling northbound on U.S. 231 when he lost control of his 1992 Ford F150 in a slight bend in the road.

Vesey advised Biggs that he hit an embankment on the east side of the road, rolled several times before coming to rest.

It was noted that Montgomery County first responded to the scene and transported Vesey to Crawfordsville Hospital for complaint of pain in his knee.

Vesey also struck a telephone junction box and fence at the address of 13843 N. U.S. 231.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

At 8:26 p.m., Andrew N. Matkins, 22, Stilesville, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 525 East when he lost control due to the icy conditions.

Matkins advised Biggs that his 2004 Ford F150 began to spin several times before striking a retaining wall and mailbox at 5216 E. U.S. 40, which was a property that appeared abandoned.

Matkins, noting he was only traveling 40-miles per hour, then ricocheted across all four lanes of the highway and ran into the yard directly across the street, but didn't damage that yard.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 1:25 a.m. on Monday, Jay A. Hansen, 36, Quincy, was traveling south on Main Street attempting to turn west onto Burma Road.

Hansen advised Deputy Matt Biggs that during the negotiation of the turn his 1999 Ford Ranger began to slide on the icy road. As he hit his brakes, he slid off the road and struck a stop sign, knocking it over.

Damage was estimated at less than $1,000.

At 7:45 a.m., George H. Benson, 65, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 at approximately 3895 N. U.S. 231.

Benson advised Sgt. Craig Sibbitt that he attempted to pass a slower vehicle and lost control of his 2007 Chevrolet Express 4x2 due to the slick roadway.

While attempting to pass it was noted that he lost control while entering the north side of U.S. 231. Benson then left the shoulder of the roadway on the east side and travel approximately 30 feet before hitting a highway sign.

Following the collision with the sign, the vehicle continued into a yard, owned by Richard and Joyce Early, for approximately 240 feet while coming into contact with a steel fence, two small trees and miscellaneous landscaping before coming to rest facing westbound in the yard.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

City Police

Four recent citations were issued by Greencastle City Police officers.

*At 11:48 p.m. Saturday, a 23-year-old Morgan County man was cited for possession of paraphernalia.

Officer Kyle Lee made a stop at McClure's on Bloomington Street and cited Derrick Thompson of Martinsville.

Three other traffic citations were issued by GPD officers.

*At 4 a.m. Sunday, Ladonna Pedro-Miller, 42, Clayton, was stopped by Officer Lee at Veterans Memorial Highway and Percy Julian Drive for having an expired license plate (Sept. 7).

*At 11:10 p.m. Saturday, Belissa Giden, 30, Greencastle, was stopped on Martinsville Street by Capt. Chris Jones.

Giden was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

*At 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Lucas Collins, 32, Cloverdale, was ticketed for speeding by Officer Eric Vaughan.

Stopped on Fillmore Road, Collins was cited for 65 mph in a 30-mph zone.

City Police

*At 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Austin Plessinger, 24, Coatesville, was stopped on North Madison Street by Capt. Jones.

Plessinger was ticketed for a child-restraint violation.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has performed three medical assists and responded to numerous dispatches recently.

*At 4:32 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, GFD was dispatched to 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm that was triggered by a dryer vent hose not being properly installed.

*At 3:15 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, GFD was dispatched to 1601 Hospital Drive for a fire alarm that was triggered by a water line rupture in the residents' kitchen.

*At 6:52 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, GFD was dispatched to 410 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm that was triggered by a candle being blown out.

*At 1:10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, GFD was dispatched to 800 S. College Ave. for a fire alarm that was triggered when a fire extinguisher discharged.
