County Jail

Five people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Thomas Wayne Evans, 64, Greencastle, was arrested for operating while intoxicated with a prior.

At 5:25 p.m., Derrick Wilson Johnson, 26, Franklin, was charged with failure to comply.

* At 5:07 a.m. on Wednesday, Kevin Decker, 46, was arrested for theft and burglary.

* At 1:25 a.m. on Thursday, Sean Alan Stewart, 30, Greencastle, was charged with domestic battery.

At 5:40 a.m., Chelsea Rose Gallagher, 23, Greencastle, was charged with a probation violation.

City Police

Two recent property-damage accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 7:07 p.m. Wednesday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Indianapolis Road, just east of Judson Drive.

Kacey Rauschenberger, 22, Elgin, Ill., was eastbound on Indianapolis Road, driving a 2007 Toyota Highlander, when a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by Tom Dloniak, 51, Greencastle, exited the Long John Silver's restaurant parking lot, turning left to go westbound, and drove into her path.

Officer Matt Huffman said Rauschenberger swerved her vehicle but could not avoid a collision that resulted in an estimated $1,00-$2,5000 total damage.

* At 9:03 a.m. Monday, a two-vehicle accident occurred on Bloomington Street near Veterans Memorial Highway.

Joseph Meister, 34, Indianapolis, was stopped at the stoplight in a 2015 Honda Fit while a 1994 Dodge Ram, driven by Shaunya Paugh, 34, Greencastle, was stopped behind him.

Paugh told Officer Ed Wilson she had been having trouble with the truck's accelerator, and when the light turned green and she attempted to pull forward, the vehicle bucked forward into the rear of the Meister car.

Total damage was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

Paugh was also cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Two recent summons were issued by city officers for possession of paraphernalia violations.

* At 1:05 a.m. Thursday, Samuel Pierce, 21, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Nick Eastham at a South Jackson Street residence for possession of paraphernalia.

* At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, Dwight Long, 19, Brazil, was cited by Officer Matt Huffman at Castlebury Apartments for reckless possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

One recent traffic citation was issued by city officers.

* At 4:45 a.m. Monday, Cheriken Dean, 21, Brazil was ticketed for speeding by Officer Eastham.

Dean was cited for 54 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street, south of Martinsville Street.

Sheriff's Dept.

Five recent accidents were investigated by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies.

* At 7:20 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, Timothy K. Perkins, 53, Greencastle, was eastbound in an area just west of County Road 475 East.

Perkins lost control of his 1997 Lincoln Town car due to ice on the roadway, causing him to travel off the north side and strike an embankment.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Gabrielle McCammack, 24, Coatesville, was southbound on State Road 243 just east of County Road 850 East.

McCammack advised Lt. Donnie Pettit that she was in a curve and observed an oncoming vehicle turning left of center. McCammack veered to the right to avoid a collision and lost control of her 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix in doing so.

McCammack traveled off the roadway on the north side, rolling several times before coming to rest upside down in a field.

McCammack complained of pain to her chest while a passenger, Cheyenne R. Burns, 22, St. Louis, complained of head pain. However, both declined medical attention.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 10 a.m. Sunday, Allen Royer, 63, Greencastle, was traveling east on County Road 500 North just east of County Road 100 East.

Royer advised Pettit that a deer entered the roadway and he struck it with his 2011 GMC Sierra.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 5:22 a.m. on Wednesday, William L. Elder, 32, Brazil, was northbound on County Road 375 West when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

Elder told Deputy Mike Downing that he left the east side of County Road 375 West near County Road 550 South and said he was awakened by the sound of his 1996 Geo Tracker leaving the roadway.

Elder overcorrected to the left, which caused him to leave the west side of County Road 375 West, enter into a ditch and flip into the passenger side.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 8:27 a.m. on Sunday, Katharine D. Walters, 20, Cloverdale, was northbound on Stardust Way Road, approaching the intersection of Lazy River Road.

Walters advised Sgt. Craig Sibbitt that due to the black ice on the roadway, she lost control of her 2003 Pontiac Vibe, left the roadway on the west shoulder and collided with a guardrail.

Walters then crossed the roadway and collided with the guardrail on the east shoulder.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
