Lady Tiger Cubs take loss

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

INDIANAPOLIS -- The GHS girls' basketball team lost its second game in a row for the first time this year. Though some bright spots were noticeable against a good Covenant Christian team, the Lady Tiger Cubs lost 65-42.

"We did a pretty good job at handling the press (Tuesday)," GHS coach Key said. "That's (Covenant's) bread and butter. We just didn't do a good job at the little things. We didn't block out very well at all today. There offense was more aggressive than we were. They are a good team I think they're fifth in 2A."

According to Key, the intensity was there for the Tiger Cubs but some mistakes on the rebounding end led to the loss.

"We didn't block out like we should've," Key said. I thought we played harder for the majority of the second half. We've got to learn from that and get ready for North Putnam on Friday."

Despite the loss, Greencastle is hoping to clinch the WCC with a win at North Putnam on Friday.

"If we win that game we'll get to win Conference outright. We want to make sure we stay focused for that. I think we have a lot of things to correct but our defensive rotation wasn't great tonight. We gave up some easy passes because of that. We let our teammates get into some bad situations. Those are all things that are correctable. We'll just get better for the next day."

Covenant Christian 17 19 9 20 -- 65
