Florence R. Alexander, 89, of Greencastle, went to be with The Lord on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015.

Born Dec. 6, 1925 in Parke County, Ind., she was the daughter of Hobert and Laura Viola (May) Martin.

Florence was a graduate of Bridgeton High School.

She was a devoted wife of 66 years and was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Alexander, on June 4, 2012.

She worked at the Putnam County Hospital and retired later from Asbury Towers after 20 years of service.

She proudly attended Lena United Methodist Church, where she was a lifetime member.

She enjoyed nothing more than the company of her family. She gathered often with family and friends at cookouts and birthday parties.

Gardening and planting flowers, watching baseball and basketball games, especially the Pacers, were her favorite hobbies.

Her and husband, Harvey also enjoyed winters in Florida.

Survivors include her children, Ronnie (Jennifer) Alexander, Jerry (JoEllen "Frankie') Alexander, James (Debby) Alexander, and Janice Neumann (fiancé Dennis Goldberg; a sister, Dorothy (Bernard) Snider; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a grandson, Ronnie Joe Alexander; and seven brothers, Ralph, Alfred, Jack E., Max Lee, Merle, infant brothers Kenneth, and Leslie Martin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Robert Kumpf officiating.

Interment will follow at Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3 at the funeral home.
