Lady Clovers lose to Shakamak

JASONVILLE -- As the only fourth-year player for Shakamak, it was a fitting night for Sierra Hudson.

The 5-9 guard was honored before the game as the lone senior for the Lady Lakers, but Hudson needed less than minute to score points 999 and 1,000 of her career, starting Shakamak on the way to a 58-42 victory over visiting Cloverdale here Tuesday night in a high school girls' basketball game.

Hudson finished with 20 points, giving her a current total of 1,018 points.

Clover coach Matt Langdon wasn't pleased with the slow start that allowed Shakamak to get to a big lead.

"It was really our mindset," Langdon said. "We talked to the girls and said it has to be the same type of mindset that we had on Friday against South Putnam. We just didn't come out strong. When you don't come out strong against a team like Shakamak, you will give that team confidence."

Kayla Gallagher and Kiera Samm also scored 12 points each for the 10-12 Lady Lakers.

"I thought we played really well defensively," SHS coach Troy Fougerousse said of jumping ahead 15-4 and 28-9 after the opening two quarters. "We made things difficult for them to score.

The Clovers were able to put up double-digit points in the final two quarters by getting the ball into the paint and scoring from in close, but were unable to challenge the Lakers for the lead.

"Offensively we didn't shoot well from the floor," Langdon said. "We have to try not to settle without getting it into the paint. I thought we settled for shots around the perimeter."
