North Putnam struggles to close out Falcons at home

Wednesday, February 4, 2015

ROACHDALE--A tough night defensively for the North Putnam boys' basketball team led to a 12-point loss against North Vermillion, 62-50.

The Cougars didn't have a hard time scoring early in the game but they had trouble slowing down the offense of the Falcons.

After scoring eleven in the first quarter the Cougars managed only seven in the second. Junior Kyler Jeter led the way with six first-half points.

The Falcons followed their 15-point first quarter with 19 in the second.

In the third quarter, North Putnam got on a little bit of a run and was able to get within 11 before the Falcons battled back.

"We started moving the ball," NPHS coach Collin McCartt. "Once we got to moving the ball around, we were able to put some points up."

North Putnam continued fighting and it was able to get the score to within nine with four minutes left, but North Vermillion again was able to take advantage of a few opportunities, including a big three-pointer and eventually pull away.

"We said if we got the score to around 10, we'd have a shot," McCartt said. "Obviously they hit that big shot at the end. When they were able to get their points was when we threw the ball away."

North Putnam will next play South Putnam in a double-header on Friday. It will be the last West Central Conference gamed played.
