Putnam bee group gets a name, slate of officers

Friday, February 6, 2015

More than 50 people attended an organizational meeting of local bee enthusiasts recently at the Dixie Chopper Business Center at the Putnam County Airport.

The group voted on a name for its organization and settled on the Putnam County Beekeepers Association.

A slate of officers was also voted upon with Bob Gruener serving as president, Bret Hurley as vice president and Teresa Maher as secretary.

Members of the group span those who are just starting in beekeeping and others that have been keeping bees for more than 40 years.

The Putnam Beekeepers Association will be meeting the second Tuesday of each month at the DePauw University Julian Science Center, starting with the next meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 in room 251.

The group's March meeting will feature Kathleen Prough, chief apiary inspector.
