Virginia Gayle Crosby

Virginia Gayle (Cosby) Crosby, 93, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, at Signature Healthcare at Parkwood, Lebanon.

She was born at home on Dec. 18, 1921 near Brown's Valley, Montgomery County, Ind., a daughter of the late Lando H. Cosby Sr. and Effie Mae (Friend) Cosby.

Virginia graduated from Waveland High School in 1940.

On March 19, 1944 she married Glenn Curtis Crosby at the Brown's Valley Christian Church. Mr. Crosby passed away on Nov. 24, 2004.

Virginia was a meticulous housewife and a loving mother.

In addition to helping Glenn with the family farms in Putnam and Boone counties, she also worked as a waitress at the Homestead Inn at Dover and at Dorthea's Coffee Shop on the square in Lebanon for many years.

She loved to play the piano and organ and was a pianist for 80 years for several churches, including Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Barnard and First United Church of Christ of Lebanon.

When her husband retired from USDA Soil Conservation Service they moved to North Fort Myers, Fla., where they were involved in real estate sales, volunteer activities, and were active members of the Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include three children, Keith Errol Crosby and wife Janie , Lebanon, Ind., Donna Jolene Friesner and husband David, Thorntown, and Danny Wayne Crosby and wife Lori, Roachdale; two grandsons, Christopher Curtis Crosby and Chasteven Shane Crosby; one great-granddaughter, Hannah Elise Crosby; four stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Lando Cosby Jr. and wife Marie, Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by three brothers, Leonard Cosby, Kenneth Cosby and Lyle Cosby.

Visitation will be at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., in Lebanon, Ind., on Sunday, Feb. 15, from 2-5 p.m.

Funeral services are planned for Monday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home in Lebanon.

Entombment will follow services at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Boone County.
