Saturday, February 14, 2015

Tri-West surged to a 14-point halftime lead and weathered two strong surges from Indian Creek to win 65-54 Friday night and advance to the IHSAA Girls' Basketball Class 3A Sectional No. 27 final.

The Bruins relied on the three-point shot in the first and second quarters as Katrina Headlee and Madison Sprecher combined to knock down six triples between the two quarters in order to build a 28-14 halftime lead.

Indian Creek then turned the ball over to Candace Danz and the junior responded by scoring 14 in the third quarter to drag the Braves back to within three at 37-34 heading into the fourth quarter.

Raven Danz tied the game from the free throw line before Sprecher hit back-to-back threes that stretched the lead out to 48-41.

Candace Danz led all scorers with 31 while Raven Danz added 11 for the Braves. Sprecher led the Bruins with 27 points while Headlee added 21 points.

The win sets up an all-Hendricks County sectional final as Tri-West will face Danville for the title Saturday night.
