Walter Gene Nash

Walter Gene Nash, 82, of Greencastle, died on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015 at Hendricks Regional Health Hospital.

Gene was born on April 4, 1932 to Walter Clyde Nash and Effie Viola Monroe Nash.

He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis in 1950 and played baseball for the Indianapolis Indians prior to entering the U.S. Navy. He worked as a radio operator while serving our country.

From 1962 until 1984, Gene worked as a detective for the Indianapolis Police Department where he spent most of his time investigating, fraud, theft and larceny.

After retiring from the police department, Gene assisted tile setters with Chance Brothers Tile Co. out of Indianapolis.

In 1984, he married Shirley Curtis.

Gene was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing golf in his free time.

He was a member of the Greencastle Church of Christ.

Gene is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Shirley; sons Myron Lee Nash and wife Melanie, Leslie Gene Nash and his wife Susan, Eric Anderson and his wife Mary and Jeffrey Anderson; daughter Jennifer Weddle; seven grandchildren; and sister Judy Boyle.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service for Gene will be held at a later date.
