In another bout where the Greencastle boys' basketball team was undersized and facing a 6-8 sophomore in Northview's center, the Tiger Cubs were not fazed Tuesday night and handled the game 66-48.

The fast-paced game was competitive, but GHS was able to pull away due mostly to its outstanding free throw shooting in the fourth.

"I thought we finally put some basketball together on both ends of the floor," GHS coach Troy Greenlee said. "Defensively we were pretty sharp in the first half plus we were hitting shots. In the second half we were able to extend the lead a little and still defend pretty well against a good team."

The visiting Knights scored nine in the first quarter but were playing catch up because Greencastle scored the first nine points of the game. Junior Ryan Coble started the game hot, hitting two threes and a two, and senior Brody Bollman was his usual self, getting points in the paint and from the foul line.

The second quarter saw Greencastle spread the ball round with four players finding the net and outscoring the Knights 14-12 even with the two-three point shots by Northview.

"We had to make them take tough shots," Greenlee said. "We gave up too many open looks in the first half. We did a pretty good job of making them make tougher shots in the second half and again we made enough stops."

After a 29-21 lead at halftime Greencastle looked to pull away. A three by Coble, two buckets coming off steals by Anthony Mitchell and 11 third-quarter points by Bollman helped Greencastle to 18 points in the third.

"At times I felt like we were lacking on defense," Bollman said. "We didn't have the same intensity. But when we picked it up, I felt like we could handle them pretty well and we didn't have much trouble at all."

Three-point shooting in the quarter by Northview, kept the Knights within striking distance but they were unable to keep Greencastle off of the foul line.

Bollman, Coble and freshman Colyn Foxx scored all of their points in the fourth from the foul line; Foxx with two, Bollman with five, and Coble was perfect, shooting 8-8. Another four points from Mitchell placed the Tiger Cubs in the ideal position as the game ended.

"Any time we play against anyone it's harder for us to deal with their size because our tallest player is about 6-2," Bollman said. "We had a lot of trouble early on but we worked on it. I think we've improved a lot."

Bollman finished with a game-high eight boards despite giving seven inches to Northview's Drew Lumsdon. Greencastle also won the defensive battle with 10 steals, four from Coble, to Northview's one.

GHS will travel to Southmont on Friday.
