Sunday, March 1, 2015

The DePauw University Jazz Ensemble will present its first concert of the semester Wednesday, March 4 in Kresge Auditorium at DPU's Green Center for the Performing Arts.

As always the DePauw University Jazz ensemble will bring to the stage an extremely varied set, mixing funk, swing and hard bop.

The 7:30 p.m. concert will feature old and classic tunes with a concert featuring tunes from arrangers such as Don Menza, Bob Mintzer, Paul McKee, Eric Richards, Frank Mantooth and Toshiko Akiyoshi.

The jazz ensemble swings just as hard as last semester, but has with an added flair with some new additions. The band's new director, Dr. Steve Snyder, thinks the -- new players add to the flavor of the group.

"We have some new members in this semester's edition of the ensemble, and I am excited about what they are bringing to the group," Snyder, who teaches jazz piano at DePauw in addition to directing the ensemble, said. "I look forward to hearing our soloists add their own personal touch to

the set."

General admission to DePauw jazz concerts is $3. Tickets for seniors, children and all students are free.
