Tuesday, March 3, 2015

Two dozen Greencastle Middle School students were recently initiated into the Tri-M Music Honor Society.

The chief aims of the Tri-M Music Honor Society are to foster greater interest in band, orchestral and choral performance and to provide wider opportunities for personal musical expression.

Students are selected for membership in the society on the basis of musicianship, scholarship, character, cooperation, leadership and service to their school and community.

After a recital hour by the GMS initiates, the following students were inducted into Tri-M chapter 3540 on Tuesday, Feb. 24: Donovan Asbell, Parker Black, Sam Hagen, Henry Carter, Preston Cook, Elizabeth Cox, Connor Crary, Ephraim Hale, Annie Hershberger, Jack Howard, Brandon Lamb, Hannah McCalister, Aidan O'Brien, Jennifer Scott, Ivan Serapio, Renee Stimpert, Dillon Sutherlin, Michael Thede, Paxton Wells, Michael White, Ben Wilkerson, Anna Wren and Miku Yamaga.

Tri-M Chapter 3540 is sponsored by Kathryn Dory.

The organization's high standards serve to challenge students to greater effort and achievement and to encourage them in the pursuit of excellence.

In 1983, the Tri-M Music Honor Society became a program of MENC: The National Association for Music Education now known as Nafme.

Nafme (the National Association for Music Education) is the largest nonprofit association dedicated to the advancement of music education at the national and local levels.
