DANVILLE -- When the Greencastle High School boys' basketball team last faced Danville the Tiger Cubs went back-and-forth with the Warriors in a one-point loss. In the sectional rematch Tuesday it was a different story.

Danville jumped to an early lead and ended the Greencastle season, 63-36.

"They're a very good team," GHS coach Troy Greenlee said. "We knew that if you get behind on a team like that it's tough to come back. We had some pretty good shots early. They just didn't fall and we got down early. It was nine to nothing and that is tough to come back from."

After the early lead Danville finished the first quarter in great shape and went into halftime with a big lead despite Greencastle matching the Warriors' 12-point second quarter.

"You've got to give them a lot of credit," Greenlee said. "They're athletic and long. They can shoot the ball and rebound. As far as our kids, I was proud of the way they battled the whole time. I've never had a question about that with these guys. It's just unfortunate that we couldn't do enough to win the game."

Giving up about six inches to Danville between the two Warrior postmen, the Tiger Cubs continued to attack the basket but to no avail. The Warriors made every Greencastle shot tough while winning the rebound battle 28-11.

Danville outscored Greencastle in the second half 32-17.

Though the season has ended Greenlee believes the seniors have matured and steadily gotten better during their years at GHS.

"One thing that has always stayed the same with them is how great of a group of kids that they are," Greenlee said. "As a coach, I can't ask any more from a group. As far as improving as basketball players I thought they've done a great job of that over the last four years. They've really come a long way.

"As sophomores they won three games. They stuck with it and never gave up and this year we won 12 games. I can't say enough about them. I love them. They're like a family to me."

Greenlee is looking for next year's team to show that they are ready to put in the work to successful next season.

"We have some talented younger kids that hopefully are willing to put in the time and effort to become better players. Again, this is a tough sectional. It's a sectional that we aren't able to just show up and win. We have to be really good. That is what we are looking forward to in the future."
